True Life: “I’m not good at goodbyes.”

How do you begin to say goodbye to people you have lived life with for the past 3 ½ months? How do you begin to sum up your life in Uganda for the past 3 ½ months? I have no clue.  I have sat down, typed this blog, erased everything, and retyped it 5 times. My head starts to hurt, and my heart starts to ache when I think about going home and people asking me, “how was your trip?” I did not just go on a trip. This was my life for 3 ½ months. This was a life changing experience, not a trip. I have seen God show up in the most raw and real way possible....

11. team mgm

[Side note: this is our last day of internet so this will be my last blog until I go home] I was reflecting on those first awkward moments when my team met at the airport and where we are now. We were a ecclectic group of 18 to 20 somethings coming from many different backgrounds and passions in life. We were different, not like the other teams at training camp. But I knew from the beginning that we were special and that God would bless us if we were faithful. My team has been in some of the lowest valleys and faced some of the biggest mountains these past 3 months. We struggled to find...

Amidst The Brokenness

I came to Africa looking for God. Looking for Him in worship, in healing, in crazy stories of revival. I continually begged Him to meet me through miracles, through angels, or through any mind-blowing experience. None of this happened. I don't have any stories where I fell out in the Spirit or had a super intense worship night where the Lord broke me. Then one day God asked me to take a good look around Lira–the town I have lived in and slowly adapted to over the past three months. God lifted a veil from my eyes, and what I saw overwhelmed me....

I’ve been thinking.

307; number of days spent in East Africa the past two years. As we come to the end of our time here in Uganda a rush of emotions and thoughts come crawling back into my mind. I’m thinking about the very first time I stepped off the plane on September 13, 2010 in Nairobi, Kenya confused as to what I just signed myself up for. I’m thinking about how after one day of being in country my leaders told me that we were headed to the bush for two weeks. Without showers, living in tents. Strange the things that at first seemed so scary are the best memories I have. I’m thinking of...

Being Thankful.

"Black Friday…Because only in America people trample others for sales exactly one day after being thankful for what they have already"-Unknown In no way, shape, or form am I against people who shop on black friday. I love sales on black friday.  Sooo. It's friday. Thanksgiving has come and go, and now you are back on with your normal life routine. The question I challenge you with is this, "Are you still thankful?" Because you should be. Don't let Thanksgiving be the only day that you are aware of how blessed you truly are. This trip has opened my eyes...

Between a Sunrise and a Sunset

Between a Sunrise and a Sunset     Do you ever have those moments when you just wish God would let you know it will all be okay in the end?   About two months ago, our team was spending a night praying and worshipping the Lord.  As a leader I asked God to show me more about this journey we were on.   He showed me a picture of our whole team dancing and worshipping under a huge African sun near the end of our time here in Uganda. He showed me that we were about to go on an epic journey with him.   It was an image of hope amidst the hard times that were...
