I use to be saved…

On Saturday we left the backpackers hostel at 5:30 am to catch our bus at 7.  As we were finding our seats I noticed that my seat was next to a African man and Zack ( a team mate) was going to sit by a African woman. I asked him to switch seats before I thought about it, he agreed so I sat down next to the woman. About a minute later Zack had to jump up because I had misread the sign and he was in the wrong seat. I still do not understand how I read 5b where it really said 4b but it turns out that my assigned seat was actually next to one of our team mates. I...

So Many Details

We have a wonderful home in Busia, Kenya with actual toilets!!!! Granted they don’t always flush and a teammate found a rat drowning in one the other morning…but TIA. All nine of us girls are in one room with our bags everywhere. It’s not the most fun thing living out of a pack in a room full of mattresses and eight other suitcases… Lord help me! So…got my passport stamped in Dubai…

After a long wait in the Atlanta airport, we all got to our plane with plenty of time to spare (starting new trends for me). Our group has the same flight itinerary as AIM’s Kenya team so we’ve been traveling with them and enjoying their delightful company. The plane had touchscreens in the back of each seat so for the duration of our 14-hour flight we had personalized choices from several hundred movies, music albums, and TV shows. (Highlights include Inception, nearly a whole season of Dexter, Dial M For Murder, and the entire Toy Story saga: I would end up only watching North...

Atlanta,Dubai, Kenya!!!!

I’m sitting in the Milinani Backpackers Hostel, I can’t tell you how long it took to get here because of all the time changes I got confused. Haha ðŸ™‚  We left for the Atlanta airport on January 19th around 11 am. We just arrived here about an hour ago, 11 am January 21st. What I have seen of Kenya is beautiful but I can’t wait to see more! My heart has been stirred over these past hours of travel and I am insanely excited about arriving in Busia tomorrow. In christ, Kaitlyn Joy

Thankful

First of all, let me just say that I love my team.  That's just what we are — a team.  We work so well together in every aspect.  We pick up the slack for one another and help each other out in whatever way possible.  That beng said. Did I mention that we made it to Kenya?!  Ever since we stepped outside of the airport I continue to be surprised in such a good way.  The sky is clear and blue, there's absolutely no humidity, and the breeze gives me goose bumps.  The people here seem really friendly, they get the biggest smiles and wave as we...
