A New Day

Well, seeing as how one of the only rules about blogging these blogs is that we can't do "shout out's" I have suddenly lost about half of my ideas for today's blog. Kidding… But I just wanted to make sure that all those important to me know how deep my love is for them. It's been less than a week, but this experience is already shaking what I value and leaving me aching for those I left behind. It's already made me realize how fortunate I am to have all you supporting me from back home. Thank you so much for your continued support. When I signed up for...

training camp

Hey everybody,               I am posting this on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, after the fourth day of Adventures in Mission Real Life Training.  I will be posting a blog on a weekly basis, and will be using I to share my experiences on the mission field in Africa.  Training camp has been a very interesting experience for me.  When my flight landed in Atlanta, we went to a homeless shelter in the city.  There we unloaded our stuff, and then set off on a first night of ministry; street-evangelism to the homeless...

Training camp is tough

I’ve never been through something that pushes me so much mentally, spiritually, and sometimes even physically.  Let me hear it, Team Uganda!  There’s no way I was the only one panting with a heart pounding as we lugged all of our baggage through the streets of Atlanta from the airport to the safe house.  Then as we discovered every humanly way to push, shove, and drag our suitcases up the side of a snowy mountain to our cabin.   Back on track, training camp has not given me a break.  The leaders and staff here are constantly finding new ways to make me...

Ready to launch!

This whole journey has been completely about relying on the Lord, listening to His voice and being obedient to His calling. Everything happened so quickly and chaotically, but this is all in the plan that God has for me. The Lord placed this calling on my heart, and I applied to Adventures in Missions one day before the application deadline was due. The next day I was interviewed, got accepted 24 hours later and finished raising my support the day before I left for my trip. Since everything happened so quickly, I don’t think I was able to fully process what I actually was doing. The...

Just Go For It

At one of our sessions Jimmy  was talking about how some of us have probably come to a point already where we are completely freaked out and have no idea what we’ve gotten ourselves into. He used the analogy of snow skiing and getting on the chair lift to get to the top of the mountain and that’s the time we realize that this is “the point of no return”. In order to get to the bottom of the mountain, you just have the ski down. But when you’re standing at the top you immediately regret this decision and feel completely unprepared for this. Maybe this is...

He will be exalted, they will rise

We made  it! Our team is perfect. I can't wait to see what the Lord does in and through us in the next four months. God is so good to have already started a good work in each of us in these past four days. Whether it be having to work as a team, discussing our differences or praying, our God is bonding us in Him. The past couple months before leaving, the Lord kept speaking to me about the dead being raised. Not only spiritually dead, but the physically dead coming to life to show the glory of the Lord. Jesus said at Lazarus' tomb, "Did I not tell you that if you...
