The land of the FREE and the home of the BRAVE

Coming to training camp I was expecting to learn about Uganda. I thought I would learn about what ministry I would be a part of and what cultural experiances to expect. I was expecting to go through a bunch of "team bonding excersizes" that no one acctually cared about because we all just wanted to get into Uganda. HA little did I know what was really coming…. While I was informed on what to expect in Uganda, I was also informed on A LOT more. This training camp revieled to me that GOD IS FREEDOM. I've always known that God is powerful, but that fact has just been...

Ogali !!

So apparently Ogali is some sort of African…carb..that has no flavor that we are expected to eat lots of. This is in no way relevant to the rest of the blog. So this is my official first blog. And I have about 12 minutes to write it, so I apologize for any grammatical errors/unfiltered thoughts. We're currently in…somewhere, Georgia (about 2 hours away from Atlanta…no clue which direction) and the past 72 hours have been a crazy mash of cold weather, dance parties, Jesus and getting to know this group of people who are going to be my team for the next 4 months. Not...

Launching Pad

Wow.  What a whirlwind past couple days.  I have been challenged, strengthened, and greatly encouraged by my time at training camp here in Georgia.  I don't have time to share it all with you, so let me tell you about my most important experiences.  One of the ideas our team has been challenged with is letting go of a burden or something holding us back from God and replacing that with something better that he has for us.  As I've thought about that God put on my heart the burdens of silence and doubt.  It is often easier for me to just stay silent...

Sleep Talking!

First off: Jesus is just so stinkin' amazing. This whole living in community thing has been much harder and much more amazing than I had anticipated. And we haven't even gotten to Uganda yet! I'm learning how to get alone time while not actually being alone. It's quite an art.  Training camp has exceeded my expectations-mainly because I didn't know what to expect- but it's been awesome. In the last 72 hours I have gotten to know these twelve people with more than depth that I have with people I've known for months. We've laughed (to the point of crying...

Sweet Dreams ARE Made of These!

Approximately 72 hours ago 11 starry eyed young adults began trickling into the Atlanta airport to embark on the biggest adventure of their lives. 4 months in a third world country with complete strangers, if that isn't complete and utter craziness I don't know what is. We had all seen each other on facebook, which helped keep the awkwardness to a minimum. We were all overflowing with joy, excitiment, and even some nerves as we headed out to load our luggage into the vans. After spending Friday night wandering around the cold Atlanta streets we headed into the middle of nowhere...
