Rocking boats, Raging seas

The last few weeks I have been in a fog. We have been really busy with our different ministries and time to process struggles and challenges has been minimal to none. And for someone who is an introvert when it comes to processing things in this life, no time to chill and process makes following Christ and being focused really hard. Now praise God in those times Jesus never leaves me, but it does make obeying Him and finding peace in His presence difficult. But something I found while searching the word this week has been really encouraging.   I was reading in 2 Chronicles 20 yesterday...

Solidarity

Last night we had the incredible privilege of being there for the first part of this: http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/world/2012/03/14/pkg-mckenzie-kony-2012-screening-in-uganda.cnn It was amazing. Sitting on top of a pickup truck, surrounded by thousands of Ugandans as they watch a documentary about the atrocities that have happened to them; to their friends; to their neighbors. It's one thing to watch Kony 2012 in your bedroom, and another to be standing next to a guy who had been abducted by the LRA. Who knows how many other stories there were in that crowd. We only were there for...

There are No words to describe this feeling

"can you please take the child? I cannot provide for him. His parents are no more. Please please help me." That question, right there is what i was presented with on Tuesday evening at the hospital. My heart literally sank to my feet. Here i was, sitting on the floor with a 3 year old little boy named Brian. Suffering from an extreme case of malnutrition, every movement on my part was made with extreme care, as I was afraid I was going to break his little frail body. His lack of energy made getting him to smile very difficult… but none the less i continued to sing "in...

This is their life…

Last night we went to watch Kony2012 at a place in Lira called the Mayor’s Garden. It is a large park in Lira and they were projecting the film onto the side of a building so everyone in the city would be able to watch it. There were over 2,000 Ugandans gathered there to watch the film. It is truly one of those experiences that I cannot describe in words. I have watched all the Invisible Children videos and have always been moved by the stories the films tell. However, watching an Invisible Children film, while surrounded by people who were once those...

The Best Days of My Life!

Welp folks, this is a double blog week. Last week I didn't have time to blog because the power was out and we only had about an hour of internet (and it was very slow). This is Africa folks! This week is what I have deemed the "week of growth". It started with last Tuesday. Last Tuesday my team asked if I would play guitar and lead worship for them. I've been learning guitar off and on for years, but I've never really been dedicated to it. I was not really excited to play for them, but I did pray earlier that week that I would have the opportunity to practice playing...

too surreal to be real.

a week ago tuesday, for the first time this trip, as tears trickled from my eyes (partially because i was on the back of a motorcycle with the dusty wind whipping me eyes and partially because it was the greatest moment of my life) I thought "thanks for bringing me here God. thanks for this moment, thanks for making this my life. this right here, it makes it all worth it" this moment was right after Dr. Henri handed me a needle, pain meds, and said "3 mils in the left deltoid." and walked out of the room…. and then I gave my first shot. to an african man. that...
