Sweet, Sweet Jesus

I have wanted to write this blog for a while, and after yesterday, I have decided it’s time.             Have you ever listened to someone call to the name of Jesus? Someone who called out to it in a personal way? It has such a sweet sound. It isn’t a name that seems too big or far off like Lord or God and it isn’t as mature sounding as Christ, but…Jesus… my Jesus.. it is sweet, humble, and personal, yet still higher than any other name.   I feel like Christians, as we grow in maturity, we...

“You’re the big mama!”

Once again it has been an amazing week here in Uganda! Something I've learned about living in a third world country; the highs are high and the lows are low. I could sit here and tell you about the low times, the times of sadness, disappointment, loneliness, ect. But the truth is, talking about them and dwelling on them, won't change anything. So instead I want to share with you a few of the highs! High number one came in the form of a road trip. In case you don't know- I LOVE roadtrips! There is just something about driving down the road, music up and windows down! There is a...

My birthday in the bush!

So this past weekend was my birthday, and i celebrated it a little differently. WE WERE IN THE BUSH. I slept in a mud hut, killed a chicken and harvested cassava. It was a great day and my team made it super awesome. On saturday we got to go to our friends introduction which was awesome, and it was cool to witness different cultural norms. Tuesday was the best day of life for me. We went to a place called child restoration outreach. I was talking to a man named fredrick, and he is a socail worker at this place. I explained to him how i was going to school for social work. I am now a social...

too surreal to be real.

a week ago tuesday, for the first time this trip, as tears trickled from my eyes (partially because i was on the back of a motorcycle with the dusty wind whipping me eyes and partially because it was the greatest moment of my life) I thought "thanks for bringing me here God. thanks for this moment, thanks for making this my life. this right here, it makes it all worth it" this moment was right after Dr. Henri handed me a needle, pain meds, and said "3 mils in the left deltoid." and walked out of the room…. and then I gave my first shot. to an african man. that...

African Confusion

Well here in Africa, white people are referred to as either “Muzungu” or “Munu.” So everywhere we go, we hear “Munu, Bye, Munu, Bye.” Or “Muzungu, how are you”. Or something along those lines. English is the universal language here in Uganda but their English is definitely different and they often have a hard time understanding us. Small Children who are just learning are often confused as well. I think that in their schools they teach them that if a white person talks to you, they are probably going to ask you two...

Solidarity

Last night we had the incredible privilege of being there for the first part of this: http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/world/2012/03/14/pkg-mckenzie-kony-2012-screening-in-uganda.cnn It was amazing. Sitting on top of a pickup truck, surrounded by thousands of Ugandans as they watch a documentary about the atrocities that have happened to them; to their friends; to their neighbors. It's one thing to watch Kony 2012 in your bedroom, and another to be standing next to a guy who had been abducted by the LRA. Who knows how many other stories there were in that crowd. We only were there for...
