R.I.P. Florence.

Been a pretty good week! Let's see. Jordan killed my duck. See his blog for the gruesome details. I feel like it has kind of been a week of ridiculousness. For instance, Mary and me being able to scrub into surgery whenever we want to. Or the fact that we presented a dance to a Christian rap song at a wedding. Not only that, but I did a backbend in this particular number. The fact that I haven't taken gymnastics since I was 10 didn't seem to matter, so that was a plus. I also wrote a song/rap with my dear friend innocent who is under the impression that we are going to be...

When the going gets tough, Jesus’ grace gets going

Wow! I cannot believe it! We are down to the last wire of our trip. Two weeks left in Lira, ½ a week in Jinja, then 3 days of traveling and Georgia and I will be home. The last four months have literally flown by. It is such a bittersweet feeling for me. Lira has truly become home for me, but I am also super excited to see all my family and friends whom I miss so, so much.   Anyways, as you saw the title of this blog is when the going gets tough, God’s grace gets going. I want to explain, I know God’s grace is always working and never ending. What I am specifically...

It’s been a week…

I'm not sure that there is any one thing that I want to share today. This week has been just another, same old,… awesome, amazing, awe inspiring week in Lira, Uganda! Thursday included a long walk with a new friend, a mud fight in the rain, a dead duck, and fun time in the kitchen with the Alpha ladies. Friday was the day that my ministry team discovered a new program for street kids that is probably my favorite place in Lira to be! The organization is called Atin Afrika and they do phenomenal work rehabillitating street children. We even spent some time talking with some of our...

Going to the chapel and we’re gonna get married!!!

So…sometimes when you are in Africa, and some friends of yours get married, you get the privilege of being the wedding singers…and the wedding dancers…and the servers at the reception, lol. Last Saturday, Sam and Dorine, the cutest African couple ever, got married. Somehow, and I don’t really know how, but somehow, our team got recruited to present a few songs during the ceremony. We chose to do a medley of some rather cheesy, but more importantly, really amusing, love songs. We began our medley with “I Say a Little Prayer for you” from the major...

a blog so good it doesn’t need a title

Last Wednesday on our day off I took a day trip to Gulu – a slightly larger city about 2 hours northwest – with Jordan, Darby, Aly, Logan and Carrie-Anne.  We spent the day with our Ugandan friend, Collines, who is a student at Gulu University, was a roadie for Invisible Children in the U.S., and now works with the Invisible Children office in Gulu.  We toured the Invisible Children offices and it was neat getting to see what IC is doing to help repair the damage done by the LRA.  In IC’s Schools for Schools program we learned about the re-building of...

Be Free

If you know me, you most likely know that while my birth certificate says I am 19 years old I'm a lot closer to 5 years old. I like to play, laugh, sing, dance, climb, jump, ect. This week was the perfect week for a 5 year old- the rain came. Now, to most people that would be annoying- you have to walk through rain and mud where ever you go (not to mention all the bugs). But to me, it is the most wonderful thing! I love the coolness. I love the sound it makes on my tin roof. I love listening to the thunder and watch the lightning light up the sky. I love to play. Something you should...
