Worshiping with cows and chickens

Just another day in the life… Every day is different here. Every day, God is working on changing my mindset. Because so many distractions have been removed, life is stripped down to the basics. And all of a sudden, it becomes so much easier to appreciate the little things in life, and to see life for the gift it really is. Over the last week, we've already developed strong friendships with several of the locals. Last night, one of our new friends asked my teammate Ashlee and I to go to a 'crusade' with her. We obliged, and found ourselves a good 5 or 10 miles out of...

So…got my passport stamped in Dubai…

After a long wait in the Atlanta airport, we all got to our plane with plenty of time to spare (starting new trends for me). Our group has the same flight itinerary as AIM’s Kenya team so we’ve been traveling with them and enjoying their delightful company. The plane had touchscreens in the back of each seat so for the duration of our 14-hour flight we had personalized choices from several hundred movies, music albums, and TV shows. (Highlights include Inception, nearly a whole season of Dexter, Dial M For Murder, and the entire Toy Story saga: I would end up only watching North...

Ready to launch!

This whole journey has been completely about relying on the Lord, listening to His voice and being obedient to His calling. Everything happened so quickly and chaotically, but this is all in the plan that God has for me. The Lord placed this calling on my heart, and I applied to Adventures in Missions one day before the application deadline was due. The next day I was interviewed, got accepted 24 hours later and finished raising my support the day before I left for my trip. Since everything happened so quickly, I don’t think I was able to fully process what I actually was doing. The...

Do You Know What You Are Getting Yourself Into?

Over the past couple montys, people have been asking me that question… a lot.  However, the meaning of that question was actually, "Do you know exactly what you'll be doing at every moment of every day?"  To the second question, the answer is no.  This will not be an adventure where I know all the details before they happen. Training camp in Georgia has not provided the answer to exactly what I'll be doing at every moment.  It has, however, been a great experience.  We've done some awesome things, such as staying at a shelter in...

He will be exalted, they will rise

We made  it! Our team is perfect. I can't wait to see what the Lord does in and through us in the next four months. God is so good to have already started a good work in each of us in these past four days. Whether it be having to work as a team, discussing our differences or praying, our God is bonding us in Him. The past couple months before leaving, the Lord kept speaking to me about the dead being raised. Not only spiritually dead, but the physically dead coming to life to show the glory of the Lord. Jesus said at Lazarus' tomb, "Did I not tell you that if you...

Hitting the Ground Running

Turns out the combination of slow, measured movements and tiny last-minute hitches was just too much. I got to the airport around 5:55 AM, but that was about 30 seconds too late. Delta Airlines requires all passengers to print their boarding passes at home or print them in the airport no later than 30 minutes before their flight departs: I was SO close. A helpful man got me a seat on the next available flight (departing at 1pm), so my friends drove me home and we all got some much-needed sleep, although I made sure I was plenty early for my next flight. When I arrived in the Atlanta...
