“I’m Obsessed With My Life Right Now.”

Okay! Can’t believe I’m finally getting to blog. The past few weeks have been beyond words. We keep saying to each other, “How are you supposed to describe this feeling to people? How could this ever be put into words?” This post will be mostly highlights and things that happened, and hopefully I can post a couple of others that are more in depth.  This past Sunday I led the worship part of service at the church (Praise- faster, Worship- slower). I even attempted to lead a song in Luo (the local language), but thankfully someone took over for me when they...

Stranded in the desert with no water and a couple chickens

Hey everyone!! So this past week has been great! On friday we went to the AIDS club meeting where we got to interact with people living positively with HIV/AIDS. It was really cool to see the strength that these people have! On Saturday we spent the entire day at the church helpinng with the compassion program. It is really cool to be able to be involved and see what they are actually doing for these sponsored children. For those of you who dont know, compassion is an organization through which people can sponsor a child. The child recieves food, education and other important items such as...

Drink it all!

There is nothing like a small African child demanding that you drink the rest of their juice bag. The one their hands and mouth have been ALL up on. I politely declined for a solid two minutes before a few other children joined in. "DRINK IT ALL!" "But I have my own water. Look my bottle  is full." ""Drink it, it's good," "I really like water…." Eventually giving in seemed to be my only option. As she handed me the little baggy of juice I had an epiphany, I can rip a new hole in the little bag. As I began  to do so the little...

I Need Africa

“I need Africa more than Africa needs me.” I wish I could say that I came up with this quote on my own, but I got it from a teammate’s shirt. After being in Africa with her for about three months now, I’ve seen the shirt quite a few times, but this past week it really struck a chord with me. I began to think to myself, ‘how in the world could I ever need Africa?’ Africa is a place stricken with AIDS, poverty, child run homes, civil wars, hunger, thirst, and many more tragedies that no human should ever have to live through; what could Africa possibly have...

For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these Children

Well I made it safely to Lira, Uganda! 🙂 After a 20 hour flight and a 6 hour bus ride we made it here a little over a 3 weeks ago. Everything went so smoothly. I have to say, looking back now it's funny that I had so much anxiety about the process of getting here.  Actually I was thinking on the way to our hotel that it's funny that I had anxiety about this trip at all. God is good, and He is always faithful and He keeps revealing that to me over and over again. I love this country. Ever since I entered, I have never felt more welcomed or more like a celebrity. haha There is...

This Is Africa!

Well its been 9 days now that we have been in Busia, Kenya. I love it. Honestly adjusting has come much more naturally than I had anticipated. So much is different from the US Example: Day one- we woke up to a rat in our toilet, thankfully the boys at the house are used to that happening and had no quams about getting it for us. The showers- they are indoors, but the water is COLD ha the shower room is big so that gives me the chance to catch my breath. 😉 Sleeping- 9 girls (and our luggage) in a bedroom not larger than mine, mice and cocroaches tend to visit  us as well. Weather- NO...
