The time I puked out the African bus

Here I am… I’m in Kenya. I’m chilling in a cool backpacking hostel. I feel great, relaxed, and comfortable…. So it’s really hard to believe that just two days ago my life was drastically different…   At two pm Friday afternoon my team and I left our home in Lira, Uganda to walk to the bus station, so that we could travel 16 hours to Nairobi, Kenya. Excited, clean, and well rested we set out with our backpacks and water bottles. We were ready for our spring break, as we like to call it, weekend in Kenya. At least we thought…   Upon...

The Squatty ate my Shoe!!

So life in the village was… interesting! Well really it was a great weekend, but full of quirks! We slept in mud huts, killed chickens, used squatty potty's and bucket showers!! Ok so I didn't kill the chicken, but some of my teammates did 🙂 Also not to forget, Poor Somer, who had Malaria the whole weekend! She was a trooper though and is doing much better!     We got to our huts late Thursday night and met Pastor Charles and his wife Scovia whom were the sweet people that let us stay at their home. They fed us a great dinner before...

Sweet, Sweet Jesus

I have wanted to write this blog for a while, and after yesterday, I have decided it’s time.             Have you ever listened to someone call to the name of Jesus? Someone who called out to it in a personal way? It has such a sweet sound. It isn’t a name that seems too big or far off like Lord or God and it isn’t as mature sounding as Christ, but…Jesus… my Jesus.. it is sweet, humble, and personal, yet still higher than any other name.   I feel like Christians, as we grow in maturity, we...

Rocking boats, Raging seas

The last few weeks I have been in a fog. We have been really busy with our different ministries and time to process struggles and challenges has been minimal to none. And for someone who is an introvert when it comes to processing things in this life, no time to chill and process makes following Christ and being focused really hard. Now praise God in those times Jesus never leaves me, but it does make obeying Him and finding peace in His presence difficult. But something I found while searching the word this week has been really encouraging.   I was reading in 2 Chronicles 20 yesterday...

I Hear Voices

Walking down red dirt, pot-hole filled, Ugandan roads, I hear voices. I hear children who cry "Mzungu!" and "Muno bye, muno bye!" I hear the voices of my team members in morning prayers, during feedback, in bible study, preaching sermons on the radio and at lunch hour prayer, and crying out to Jesus when their struggles and doubts try to take over. I also hear their voices speaking truths over my team members who are struggling and doubting. Walking down red dirt, pot-hole filled, Ugandan roads, I hear the voice of my Savior. I hear His voice crying "Mzungu!"...

College Life: Gulu 2012

Last Saturday, team leaders Brittany and Logan with the help of their accomplices John and Jordan woke the whole team up at 5:30am with the proclamation "you have 30 minutes to be up and dressed for the day." We were "thrilled"… Arriving in the courtyard a little disheveled and still mostly half asleep, we began to inquire as to why we were up 2 hours earlier than normal. But the offenders wouldn't budge. They had a suprise for us. We were waiting on a vehicle to arrive at 6:00am. Somewhere arround 6:30-6:45am a taxi van pulls up in the yard. T.I.A....
