Hey everyone!!
So this past week has been great! On friday we went to the AIDS club meeting where we got to interact with people living positively with HIV/AIDS. It was really cool to see the strength that these people have! On Saturday we spent the entire day at the church helpinng with the compassion program. It is really cool to be able to be involved and see what they are actually doing for these sponsored children. For those of you who dont know, compassion is an organization through which people can sponsor a child. The child recieves food, education and other important items such as soap. I have started to build some really cool relationships with some of the children.
On Monday we worked at the church in the morning filing papers for compassion, and then in the afternoon we went to fountain highschool where we hung out with the teenagers! I LOVED it.
On Tuesday, Logan, Mary, and I went to Barlonyo, a village that suffered a major attack by the LRA. The church decided to build a school there to provide some hope and enlighten the community. When we went to the memorial it was crazy. There was a sign that said that 121 people had died… but really the count was over 300 people who were murdered. It is really sad that the Government does not want to show weakness and will just completely forget about the other 200 people who lost their lives that horrid day. Even walking around the village was intense. My heart just felt so heavy and sad. I cant imagine what that day was like, nor do i ever want to experience that. I thank God every day for blessing me wiith such an amazing homeland.
I just about didnt get to blog today so you are lucky… The power went out for a while. like it does all the time. but hey… This is Africa!!!
