Today isn't my day to blog, nor is it my free day, but plans got cancelled so I'm rolling with it.
Wednesday was a big day of firsts for most of the team, including myself.
The first thing we did was charity work, so I went to clean someone's house. Then the whole team went to the city and did door to door ministry,(a first) and after that we did a thing called open air. Let me touch on door to door first.
Three people, and a translator go to people's homes and tell them about Jesus. Kind of like the Jehovah's witness…but not. I really liked that because God just kind of shows up, and all you have to do is talk to people, typically exchanging stories. It's cool.
Now for the cool part. Open air. Open air is kind of like street preaching. There is a microphone, speakers, and you're outside just speaking Gods word and singing. This was my first time with open air. To be honest, I thought I would be opposed to it. Because my stuck up self didn't think God would be a part of something so…different. Little did I know. Well, we begin with worship which is just some crazy songs that you wouldnt really understand. I dont even know what the words are, and I love worship but for some reason my heart was desiring to play with the kids. *wherever white people are, typically there are an abundance of children. So I decided to follow my heart and go play with the kids. Which was SO MUCH FUN. My favorite part was when this 12 year old girl and I were dancing and jumping and just laughing at ourselves. We jumped till we were exhausted.
i don't know the girls name, but I remember her smile. If you have never seen a little African smile, then let me tell you it is absolutley beautiful.
There was a language barrier between us. There were very few words understood but God is so good He can bring two very different people together by some dancing and a smile.
*for most people who know me, they know that I lack the talent of dancing. I didnt dance at home, but oh how things have changed.
