so. just sitting at the internet cafe drinking a coffee milkshake…trying to find the desire to write about something. Eating dairy products here is always a bit of an adrenalin rush, since you never know exactly how you'll feel afterwards, but ice cream is worth the risk and i've always liked living life on the edge.
There are a lot of things you never realize you miss till they're gone…like ice. and broccoli. This second week has been a bit harder getting acclimated as we finally realize we'll be here for 4 months but it is so awesome getting to know the people who live here and realize that even 3rd world countries are just places where people are living their lives.
Poor planning has lead me to being out of time to write this blog so my favorite Africa memory for this week is going to have to be enough for this blog – Yesterday, Somer, John and I walked around the village looking for people to talk to. We ended up spending 3 hours with Okello Ronald and his "Grandee" who made us eat a terrifyingly large amount of sweet potatoes and "sim sim" ..which I thought was mud when they brought it out. Somer stuffed some of them in her purse since apparently its rude not to eat their food. It was so awesome getting to talk to him about life and how he needs money to go to school as Grandee showed us pictures of her children that have died, but what really stuck out to me was how they told us that we were now a part of their family. Apparently eating a meal is the sign of entering that family and Ronald told us we need to come back and viist and if he isnt there, we need to come see Grandee.
Simple memory, but a good one and I'm anxious to see how all of these will develop over the next few months.
Thanks for the Prayers 🙂
