Hello Uganda

After a wonderful training camp full of spiritual growth and a long few days of traveling, it's so nice to finally be in Rukungiri settling into our home. This week has been very laid back and has allowed the team to get acclimated with the area. We have all become very familiar with the market due to our frequent trips. As a team we have split duties between shopping at the market, cooking meals and doing dishes. Everything is a new experience and takes time to adjust to. There is no dishwasher for dishes, no washing machine for laundry; there are squatty potties outside instead of toliets and we take cold bucket showers instead of hot showers from a shower head. But surrendering all these things and giving up some of the comfort I am use to is so freeing.

On Saturday I had the opportunity to go to a church for a youth group service. It was so refreshing and encouraging to see so many teenagers worshipping the Lord. Worship has always been something I really enjoy but here in Uganda it is so powerful. Joy and the presence of God filled the church unlike anything I've ever experienced. Even if I have nothing else in common with the people here, our love for Jesus will always bind us together.

In the two weeks it has been since I left Virginia for training camp my faith has grown more than I could have imagined. I cannot wait to see what the Lord has in store for me and my team as we start ministry in the next few days. Lastly, I would like to share a Bible verse that has been prayed over me multiple times and I feel is incredibly fitting because I am the youngest on my team. It's from 1 Timothy 4:12, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love and in purity."
