Well, we are in Uganda! 36 days later…
Sorry that it had taken me so long to post a blog, but I had some complications with my password. As you can see, they have been resolved!
I am going to give a brief summary of the past month, and if I were Brent Stephens, that would have been much funnier.
What happened in the first two weeks will be in the blog following this simply because I had already written it out beforehand. I guess you will just have to read that one, too, if you wish to find out about our Journey here!
After the first two weeks, we began our ministry at a boys high school, which is called Secondary School here. We instantly fell in love with the boys here. There hearts are so receptive to us and to the message we bring about a God who loves them and a Savior who redeemed them.
We began our ministry as we had begun any form of ministry here: by introducing ourselves and giving a "performance" (a song or two) to a congregation of students and adults.
This all took place after the first 3 days because the boys arrived at the boarding school at various times within the first few days. Timeliness is definitely an interesting concept here.
After they all arrived, our true ministry began, for we were given the task of leading devotions every week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Then, little did we know, we would become teachers because, like I said, timeliness is an interesting concept here. Many teachers had not yet arrived at the school, so many of us would go from teaching about happiness in the Old Testament to the various parts of the brain and how they functioned together.
After a week or so, more teachers arrived and there were fewer opportunities to teach. This was discouraging to many of us, for this was one of our greatest ways of spending time with the boys considering that they are in classes from 8am to 5pm.
Thankfully, God revealed to us many opportunities for ministry while the boys were in class. Some of us decided to repair their basketball court, some chose to set up clubs, such as a choir club or lessons on how to play the guitar, and some began to feel a desire to minister to the girl's boarding school nearby!
Even though our expectations and plans may fail us, God is still sovereign. This is the theme of our trip…and for my life.
Things To Pray About
1. There has been a lot of sickness on our team over the course of the past month.
2. Discouragement has been prevalent, but it beginning to subside.
3. Many people in this area KNOW OF Christ but do not KNOW him intimately.
4. Patience for coming home because so many of us have had God reveal His plans for us when we return. We know God has us here for a purpose, and that His timing is perfect.
5. There is a village where we do some of our ministry, and it is filled with alcoholics and broken people. Pray that God will soften and perform a revival in their hearts.
I love you guys and am SO INCREDIBLY thankful for how you have supported me and been praying for me already!
