Built.. African tough

So this past week in Lira has been pretty great! On thursday we spent some time at the church talking with people and learning about HIV education. We were fed by the church ladies… rice, beans and mystery meat.. we ate with our hands and it was awesome except it didnt exactly make me feel top notch. On friday we spent some time walking around the village and we met some cool people , many of which are planning on coming to canada.. haha. Saturday we rocked out at an African wedding… and we were also the center of attention for about 5 minutes. When we walked into the building, we were late, and they had us sit RIGHT at the front. Then when Pastor Johnson got up to do the ceremony he announced us and made us say our name and where we were from. I would not have been impressed if that was my wedding, but then again… This is Africa!i
Monday was a good day. We took Manuel, one of the children who lived at the same place we did to school. It was hard to say goodbye to our little friend but we were so happpy to see him getting an education. I spent the day assisting in classrooms and playing with little kids. One child really caught my eye. He was about 3 years oldd and couldnt speak english. His little  belly was so descended it broke my heart.
One thing i really notice about African children … Man they are TOUGH! They can fall and smash their face and get right back up and keep running. They women here are tough as nails too! its crazy what the women here do. I am DETERMINED to be able to balance things on my head by the time i come home.

God has really been working on my heart through all the hurt and pain that i have seen so far. There are days when i really miss home, but then i see how some other people have lived their lives, and i dont feel so bad for myself.

the Mosquitos are real fond of my canadian skin… Its really annoying and no matter how much bug spray i  use, they do not let up.

Anyways, thats all for today!

Take care,
Makyla
