If you know me, you most likely know that while my birth certificate says I am 19 years old I'm a lot closer to 5 years old. I like to play, laugh, sing, dance, climb, jump, ect. This week was the perfect week for a 5 year old- the rain came. Now, to most people that would be annoying- you have to walk through rain and mud where ever you go (not to mention all the bugs). But to me, it is the most wonderful thing! I love the coolness. I love the sound it makes on my tin roof. I love listening to the thunder and watch the lightning light up the sky. I love to play.
Something you should know about Ugandans is they are VERY clean. They bathe 3 times a day, it's ridiculous (they get really upset when I tell them I bathe once a week…. yikes). So when the staff at Alpha (our hotel) saw what the team was doing, they couldn't contain their laughter! Our team sleeps in 5 rooms all joint together with a quart yard. The quart yard is a floor made of tile. Needless to say- we thought it would be a good idea to make a slip-n'-slide on it. Jordan and Logan and I were slipping and rubbing soap all over our bodies to make us go faster. Pretty soon the entire team was playing.
I should also mention something about one of my leaders, Logan. This girl is cray-cray. We were outside after the skip-n'-slide and all of the sudden I hear, "Darby Biasotto, I need you!". I walk over and get a pile of mud thrown at me. Needless to say, it quickly turned into a mud fight between me and her. And before we knew it my other leader, Brittany and team-mate Ally A. joined in! We were covered in mud, bruises on our knees, laughing our butts off. We have this saying on the team, "be free", and we were just that, free.
We had a week full of freedom. We performed a dance and a song at a wedding, we playing in the rain and mud, we jumped on a trampoline, and we played with a monkey. So here's my challenge to you- be free. Do something that might be a little childish. And do it shamelessly. People might look at you a little silly, but the truth is, who gives a crap. They're most likely jealous of all the fun you're having. They're most likely jealous of your freedom. It doesn't matter what you're doing, or what you look like, God made you just the say you are and you are called to live in that freedom!
It's hard to believe in 3 weeks I'll be on a plane back home. Actually it's terrifying to think about. So I'm not going to think about it! Love and miss you all!
