Following God to the Ends of the Earth

Traveling to Kenya was rough….. We sat in the Atlanta airport for about 8 hours. We took a 14 hour flight to Dubai. Lost Chris for a few hours because they wouldn't let him enter the country without a visa (He's Canadian). Waited for 6 hours in the Dubai airport. Took a 5 ½ hour flight from Dubai to Kenya. Sat in line for about 2 hours to get visas for all 12 people on our team. Took a 45 minute bus ride to our hostel. The leaders didn't get to rest, but got to go buy food and bus tickets. Woke up at 5am the next morning to take an 8 hour bus ride...

Truth Manifesting into Life

10 Declarations of Truth Over Team Uganda:   We walk in ever increasing health in Jesus name. We walk in unity. We bring life to each other and to this nation. We are covered by the blood of the Lamb. We lay down in peace and sleep for God alone makes us dwell in safety. We display a culture of honor. We walk in boldness and integrity. We are lights shining in the darkness. We walk in our true identities in Christ. We worship freely in Spirit and in truth.   Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is on us, because...

He is Able

Yesterday three teammates and I had the opportunity to go to Deliverance Church in Matayos to share testimonies and preach. Pastor Gideon, our contact in Busia, spoke for a bit before we were invited to speak. The structure we were in was made up of small sticks and was about the size of a typical American master bedroom. If a strong wind came through there is no doubt that this structure would topple over. There were about fifteen people attending service. Pastor Gideon spoke of how our God is a big God. He is not poor but very rich. In America we might take a lot of what they preach here...

Sound Check, 1, 2, Thank You Jesus

“Sound check, 1, 2, thank you Jesus.” This past week, the church we’re working with in Busia hosted a series of crusades in a nearby village called Matayos.  To get to Matayos, our group crammed into a van along with several other people and all of the sound equipment needed for the crusade.  Along the way, it wasn’t uncommon for us to pick up even more people who needed a ride.  Every day when we got there, the guys would construct a 30 foot tower for the speakers, so that what was going on could be heard by everyone around.  The sound...

Worshiping with cows and chickens

Just another day in the life… Every day is different here. Every day, God is working on changing my mindset. Because so many distractions have been removed, life is stripped down to the basics. And all of a sudden, it becomes so much easier to appreciate the little things in life, and to see life for the gift it really is. Over the last week, we've already developed strong friendships with several of the locals. Last night, one of our new friends asked my teammate Ashlee and I to go to a 'crusade' with her. We obliged, and found ourselves a good 5 or 10 miles out of...

Of the Pleasures of the Road.

Although we were blessed to spend our first day relaxing at a backpackers’ hostel in Nairobi, the first six weeks of our trip are to be spent in Busia, Kenya, a moderately-sized town on Kenya’s western border. Thus it happened that we woke around 5 AM in order to make our bus to Busia. Though we’re only a few days into the trip, we’re already learning to keep our expectations relatively simple to avoid being disappointed. (That is not to say that Kenya has failed to please: all I mean is that some of the team members share a moderate dislike for rats in their...
