Friendly neighborhood superheroes

“The last crimson streak fades from the sky. The evening moon casts its blue light. Women and children rest their heads. Alpha sleeps. All is quiet. Almost… There are some that wake late in the night. Mischief stirs and trouble brews. Dark figures walk the streets. All of Lira sits on the brink of chaos, everything hangs in a balance so slight. All may be lost. But there are some who resist it. A flash of light breaks the night, and what was once dark becomes bright. A few, a strong few, defend this city from the terrors of the night. They are feared by all who are evil, and loved by...

God, When Did This Happen to Me?!?!

This past week was our mid-debrief, which means that we traveled to Jinja to take a short break from ministry. It was an awesome time. We traveled by matatu (a "14 passenger" taxi van) and bus, camped by the Nile, rafted the Nile, bungee jumped over the Nile, talked about some of what God has done the last couple months, and came home in the similar traveling fashion. This past week was a time of reflection on what God has done, and a time for me to personally realize what has actually happened in my heart. Over the last 2 months living in Africa has slowly become actual life...

Who am I?

A couple years ago I went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. My leaders for the trip were amazing and I remember walking away thinking that I would love to lead a team someday. To pour into people's lives like other's have done to me. To take them into the nations and watch how their lives will be transformed by what they encounter. I thought it was wishful thinking at the time. I would have never guessed that just a short couple years later I would be doing exactly that. And not only a short 2 week trip but a full 3 months. And who would have guessed that I would...

The Day After

This past weekend was a truly great weekend.  My team and the team in Kenya had the opportunity to go to Jinja, Uganda for mid-debrief where we talked with some AIM staff about what God has done through us thus far on the trip, where we went rafting down part of the Nile River, and where we got rest from the busy life of a missionary.  It was truly amazing.  But even more amazing than super fun rafting or the exquisite ice cream and the unbelievably needed rest was the day after returning from Jinja.   Yesterday we had an unexpected ministry opportunity pop-up.  One...

The Professional

You know what one the greatest things is about being on the mission field? It’s the surprises, the stuff you never expected or thought you would experience. For me, meeting other missionaries has been an awesome surprise. Sure, I knew we would meet up with fellow missionaries sometime, but we have been blessed to meet an abundance of them here. We’ve met people from Denmark, from Norway, from Canada, and even some other Americans. So cool! These folk have all been so interesting and unique, and I’ve learned some stuff from each of them.   One missionary in particular...

  Addiction

Well I have a confession to make, I am an addict. Except I will gladly share what this addiction is, and will pray that everyone in this world of ours will feel this same addiction. For those of you who may be thinking, “What addiction should be prayed on somebody?” Well that addiction is love, Christ’s love to be exact. For the last couple of days, I have be feeling this love flowing through my veins. I’ve been on a hyperactive, happy, crazy mood lately. God loves the whole world so much. I pray that everyone will know and feel this love. It truly is...
