The Power of the Holy Spirit

Mark 16:15 says, “And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”   The last Saturday of every month the students of Makobore High School are allowed to leave the campus and go into town for the afternoon. So this past Saturday Hillary, Meghan, Sarah Ann, Alex (our leader’s friend from Kampala) and I went into town with two of the students, Ronald and Daniel. We decided to walk along the road leading to the school with hopes of preaching the Gospel, something we call door to door ministry. I had never done this before and was...

God Answers Prayer!

I would be lying if I said that Africa is all incredible, wonderful, and amazing every minute of every day. And for the most part, it really is. But just like life back home, there are challenges and hard moments. Like finding out that our ministry was to be a boys' high school, and feeling like only working with teenage boys was literally the last thing I had pictured when coming to Uganda. Like the fact that we get up before the sun each day, and get home just before dark, leaving us with little time to relax and have alone time. Like how we've spent a lot of time each day sitting...

It’s an I Love Africa Day

Patience is the official word concerning the past two weeks. While the students are in class, most of our team doesn't have much to do except sit and wait until the studens are out of class. The first week where we sat around was the hardest week here so far. I felt useless and anxious to do something productive until five o clock rolled around and we could hang out with the students. All week I questioned why we were placed in this school. On Friday of that week I had been praying that negative spirit off of me and I also prayed for opportunities; guess what? God completely answered...

“The Visitors Who Are No Longer Visitors”

There have been a number of moments in the month I've spent in Rukungiri where I just have to stop and soak in the fact that this is my life. Things like listening to the boys sing in Runyankole and knowing that the God they worship is the same here and in America. Or walking to and from ministry holding hands with sweet schoolchildren and telling them that Jesus loves them. Or turning the Geography class you're not equipped to teach into preaching the Gospel for 40 minutes.    Things like these have become such a part of my everyday life here that...

Beautiful Things

After being in Uganda for about a month, there have been so many amazing opportunities for ministry. I’ve been able to teach math and science classes, preach a sermon last Sunday morning on Mark 9:42-50 and start to build relationships with the students of Makobore High School.   Preaching in church was extremely nerve wrecking but also incredibly encouraging and rewarding spiritually. Mark 9:42-50 says, “But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone hung around your...
