That’s Milarious!

Hello family and friends!      The 13th of February marked my teams one month anniversary of meeting each other! And what better way to celebrate than all of us going to a local medical clinic to get tested for malaria?? I sure can't think of one! The test was relatively painless, just a small finger prick, and we are all malaria free, so praise the Lord! I actually have not been bitten by one mosquito the entire time I have been in Africa, so thanks to whoever has been praying for that, because it is working!     ...

Wow God, You!

A little back story…myself and 3 other team members have connected with a local woman here and her family. Many members of her family are Jehovah's Witness. She is called Grandee, we spoke with her through a member of her family named James (also a JW believer). After our conversation last Saturday about why we can know that Jesus is God (they believe Jesus was the Son of God, but not God), they asked us to come back in a week to discuss the Holy Spirit. They expressed to us how thankful they were that we approached them with love and kindness. They said we did not argue but,...

Yes, I promise I’m not 5 years old….

It's been a pretty heavy week- so I thought it would be fun to light up the mood with an accrostic poem about Lira, Uganda. Enjoy folks! Let's see how many people we can fit into this car! I have no idea what time/day/month it is right now…. R ight after you shower I promise you will get dirty again- save time and don't shower. Anyone else smell that? Under all of this dirt I am super pale, however, right now I'm looking pretty tan (aka The African Spray Tan) God is SO good!!!! A t any given moment you will hear children yelling "munu" (no idea how...

I ate snot!

Ok not really.. but there is a thing (yes i will call it a thing), called boyo.. It of has the texture of snot, smells sort of similar to peanut butter, looks like spinach and snot, and the taste is just not the greatest. We usually eat it (or swallow quickly without tasting it too much) with sweet potatoes, or posha, which is corn mashed up to a potato like consistency. We get this meal once a twice a week at the church, and it is our favorite meal (insert slight sarcasm here)!      But overall, food wise, we are beyond blessed!! Our hotel feeds us...

“You’re half Mzungu half China!” -The Real One.

It seems the people of africa are better at recognizing asians than in San Antonio. Just sayin. Also..I accidentally posted this as Aly earlier..so disregard her post that has the same title 🙂  I keep hearing that people are reading my blog. I appreciate all of you letting me know because otherwise I would have very little motivation to actually write every week. SO thanks :D.  I think we're pretty much almost settled in to life here in Lira. Accepting the fact that Africa does crazy things to your feet and aware that they might never return to a normal hue again....

They named their pig “Darby”!

Ok so my blog doesn't actually have to do with this pig, but a family did name their pig after me! This week I started working with compassion international. It's been a really good experience. I don't know about you guys, but when I see adds for child sponsor programs I get really depressed. You see videos of hungry, sad children with some sad song in the background. If I'm being honest, that's when I usually change the channel. Now don't get my wring, that is the reality of the situation. These kids are hungry, they are lost, and they are looking for love. But...
