My Friend Geoffrey

This is the story of my new friend Geoffrey. June 7th, 2000. Geoffrey was attending Senior One at his school about five kilometers outside of Lira, Uganda. He was fifteen years old. One night, a group of LRA soldiers broke into the boys dorm at the school and arrested Geoffrey as well as thirty-eight others. They layed on their stomachs and were tied behind their backs. They were assembled along a roadside and were addressed by someone who told them they may be disturbed bu Ugandan forces. As they made their way through the bush they captured others as well. The way Geoffrey described life...

My song is gonna play on the radio!!

Hello friends and fam! So remember how I told y'all that I have been sharing my songs with some of my teammates, and that God has been really challenging me in terms of being bold for him?? Welp, tomorrow I am going to be singing one of the songs the Lord gave me on the radio! So here's the deal, Victory Outreach Ministries, the church we work with here in Lira, has a radio program that broadcasts to all of Uganda and Sudan. There is a 30 minute window every morning for someone to bring the word of the Lord, and tomorrow morning, that someone is going to be...

Yes, I promise I’m not 5 years old….

It's been a pretty heavy week- so I thought it would be fun to light up the mood with an accrostic poem about Lira, Uganda. Enjoy folks! Let's see how many people we can fit into this car! I have no idea what time/day/month it is right now…. R ight after you shower I promise you will get dirty again- save time and don't shower. Anyone else smell that? Under all of this dirt I am super pale, however, right now I'm looking pretty tan (aka The African Spray Tan) God is SO good!!!! A t any given moment you will hear children yelling "munu" (no idea how...

That’s Milarious!

Hello family and friends!      The 13th of February marked my teams one month anniversary of meeting each other! And what better way to celebrate than all of us going to a local medical clinic to get tested for malaria?? I sure can't think of one! The test was relatively painless, just a small finger prick, and we are all malaria free, so praise the Lord! I actually have not been bitten by one mosquito the entire time I have been in Africa, so thanks to whoever has been praying for that, because it is working!     ...

“I am living positively”

As my eyes darted from face to face, trying to capture every detail, every scar, the heaviness of their reality was more than evident. The group is refferred to as people living positively, as in HIV positively. I am fairly certain their intent was a play on the word 'positive' which would be uplifting and somewhat beliavable until you hear their stories. Stories of men taking their wives medications, stories of people dying because they didn't want to wait at the hospital three days to recieve their medicines, stories of men reinfecting their wives over and over again, stories...
