Freely you have recieved, freely you give

Something I've noticed in my life is the vast majority of things I see. I see beautiful things- I see children's smiles when I wave to them, I see Zebras, I see baby giraffes licking my face, I see the sun rise over the mountains in Kenya, I see my team mates laughing until we cry. I also see tragic things- I see sickness, I see poverty, I see hopelessness, I see pain, and I see grief. This week I've spent time doing both. I would like to take this blog post to tell you the story of a little boy named Aroke Dennis and how God is continuing to redeem my past, even here in...

Hakuna Matata.

Hello! So I’ve been noticing this whole trip what a hassle it is to keep up with these dang malaria pills. Spilled them in the dirt. Lost them. Makyla found them. Spilled them in my backpack. Lost them. Found them. Wrestled them back from an African as he tried to throw them away. Spilled them in my purse. BUT I still have them in my possession and haven't missed a day! …A full day.    Anyways, we got back from Nairobi about a week ago, and it was definitely a nice, weird break. Weird because it almost seemed like the U.S. at times. We ate quesadillas and insanely...

John meets Obama

I’ve mentioned in some previous posts the relationship we’ve built with the Jehovah’s Witness family – especially the grandma – Costida.  We’ve been having some discussions about Jesus and the Holy Spirit with her and another family member, James, but two weeks ago we were going to to stop in for just a few minutes to say hello and talk with her about life – letting her know that we care about her beyond just our discussion visits.  When we visited, however, she was in no mood to chat and seemed really agitated that we came to talk...

Kenya or Bust!

Well the journey to Kenya was interesting to say the least. It all started around 2:30pm on Friday, March 23rd. We arrived at the Kampala Coach Bus Station waiting for our bus that was supposed to arrive at 4pm. Of course while sitting there, the bus workers handed us a brochure about the Kampala Coach, which spoke of it’s free meals, 46 inch tvs, and how we were about to ride in Luxury.. LIES!! The bus arrives not so promptly around 6pm. We get on to find that there is not even enough seats for us even though we paid for 13. So for the first 2 hours, I sat in the aisle of the bus....

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand…

Three months ago I walked up to a group of 12 people at the Atlanta, Georgia airport, which is when it hit me… I was about to leave my family, friends, church, job, school, state, city, home, and comfort zone. And I was entering a community with 13 people whose names I barely knew, expected to rely on and trust them with my daily safety, needs, comforts, weaknesses and strengths. I was entering a continent I had never seen, meeting people I knew nothing about, in a culture that I knew very little about. I was going to be involved with a church I knew nothing about, not their...

Recently…………………………..

Well it is April everyone! Only a few weeks left here in Uganda. Kenya was a nice time! Ate a lot of food that was highly Americanized, got to see friends from the other Africa teams and hang out with them. Got to premiere the ChickenHawk Video to the people there. Don’t worry, it will be available for the public when I get home in May. So be patient : ) Also got to see Giraffes if you haven’t seen the pictures yet. The link is: www.facebook.com/JordanScottPhotography That was pretty sweet, I’ve never seen that exotic of an animal. We were supposed to get to see...
