Let me ruin your day

Today was our charity work day where we go into a home of need and clean and cook for them. Today we met an elderly couple. The man could hardly move and the woman was nearly blind. Their 12 year old grandson lived with them, as well as 3 adult men.  We walked into the house, and it reeked of a conglomeration of different nastiness. Then we looked up at the curling and it was covered in cobwebs, as well as huge, scary, and possibly poisonous spiders. It was disgusting.  I thought I was going to barf, like I am not exaggerating. It was sick.  But that is not the point of this...

well, that was Lucky

Now that the "honeymoon" stage of our trip is nearing an end the reality of how far away all familiar thing are is setting in.  God has sent a little girl to help ease my home sickness and I'm SO thankful for that! Her name is Lucky and she is ten years old.  She was the first girl to come up to me on the first day at church and I have been attatched ever since.  She is my language tutor, my dance instructor, source of joy, and basically my best friend.  Weird because she is only ten years old but her maturity far exceeds her age.  I think that is...

God laughs at me

It's been said, "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes then you just might find that you get what you need." Today has been an example of this saying.    Today is Monday, our team's day off, and as such a group of us elected to go climb a mountain near Gulu. Sadly, our van (affectionately dubbed Belinda by the girls) broke down not  1/4 mile from the hotel, causing a rerouting of plans forthe day. Amidst the aggrevation and realization that we would be climbing no mountain today and that our day off hardly felt...

Oh adventure

My life has always been filled with many adventures and sponteous activities. Hiking, camping, creek swimming, skydiving, random road trips, etc are all this i absolutely love and crave.  Back at training camp we had a night of excerises for listening prayer. I was told twice, by two different people that they saw a green field. They didn't really know what it meant or what I could do about it. So I have been taking it to the Lord.  Since being here in LIra I haven't really been able to truly release my adventurous spirit. The other night I expressed this to our team. I...

Uncle Jack and Orphans

Hi there friends and family! Oonano Moonoo, (I see a white person!) has become my most-heard phrase, haha! This may be brief but well worth the read J So, after serving at the church, we started walking back to the place we’re staying and one of our members fell down. An elderly man who was missing an arm with the other crippled tried helping her up and was giving us tips on how to clean her scrape. After helping us, he continued to walk with us and we all started to get a little weirded out because he seemed a little out of it. But just when things would seem awkward, he would make...

Chapatti, boda boda’s, and joy

HEY EVERYBODY!! Sorry it has taken me so long to blog! It is so crazy to think i have only been gone for two weeks because so much has happened in such a short amount of time! I dont even know where to begin to tell the stories! Uganda truly is the pearl of Africa! The people here are so beautiful and everyone is just so welcoming to us! After spending a few days in Kampala where we met a young girl Alice who came up to ask and asked us if we were born agains and then proceeded to ask us to help her know Jesus. We were all so amazed at God for bringing her to us and for her courage to...
