We Made It!

Coming into training camp, I had no idea what to expect. Needless to say, I did not anticipate that immediately upon arrival, we would be asked to leave all but three items of our choice to get us through the night while we slept on a tarp under the stars. After the first night, they graciously gave us our belongings back. This, along with all of the other experiences at training camp had the purpose of preparing us for our trip. During the four days at camp, I played in a lot of red clay, had some amazing conversations with God while walking through the tall Georgia pines, and...

Month 9 1/2.

Kenya: September – November 2010. Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania: January – May 2012. Uganda: August – December 2012.   If you would have told me that two years ago I’d be spending a total of 12ish out of the next 24 months in East Africa I would have laughed. But here I am again, back in East Africa for the third time since I left my precious bubble in September 2010. I guess the joke is on me! Although I would have laughed a couple years ago at the thought of all of this, I can’t picture my life any other way. You know how you get that feeling some place and...

Safe Arrival!

We just spoke with the team leaders and they've all arrived safely in Kenya and will be taking a very long bus ride to their ministry site in Uganda. The team will be settling in these next couple days and getting some orientation from their host.  Expect to see some blogs rolling out in the next few days as they find internet. Thanks for all the prayers for this team! The Passport field support team

I’m sorry…you want me to do what?

If any of ya'll know me, you know that I don't do bugs. At all. When we first arrived at training camp we were told to drop our luggage off at the cabin and grab 3 things we might need. Luckily, I decided to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, and my medicine. Anyways, long story short we had to sleep outside in our shelter that we built out of tarp and rope. So obviously, I was not expecting that at all. LOVING it would be a stretch to say, but it definitley helped me understand where my heart was at through all this. Basically what i've learned in training camp is that I never want...

1. New Places. New Faces

You would think by now I would be used to being away from home, meeting new people and experiencing life in new ways. Coming into this trip the last two days at home were incredibly difficult for me. I was an emotional wreck, confused and uncertain. Yet deep in my gut I knew that what I was doing was exactly what I was supposed to be doing. That coming here was exactly where I was supposed to go.   Once I arrived I felt an incredible amount of peace. I felt strange how calm I was once I arrived. I feel completely refreshed in my relationship with God. Something is different and...

Yet, I will still praise Him.

How can I reconcile knowing God's beautiful purpose in a two month trip and a broken heart that longs to remain? I believe it was time for me to come back home but it is strange to be back.  In Uganda, you are daily surrounded by people who know true lack and want, yet their joy is unquenchable because they know God. Their daily lives are surrounded by prayer and praise of Jesus Christ for anything and everything in their lives, big or small, obstacle or triumph, in live or death. There is no time for fruitless distraction in the things that we fill our lives with in America for...
