Hey everyone! I’m in Lira Town at last! And things are quite different here! Things are exciting and the people here are very kind and very welcoming. So far, I’ve eaten goat (which was surprisingly really good), and on the first day in Uganda we were able to tell a teenage girl about Jesus, and she accepted Him into her life. I’ve been proposed to by an old man on the street, I’ve been stared at and laughed at and asked for money by children. But I’ve seen so many beautiful smiles, hugged, held and played with so many beautiful children. I have felt so welcomed by the community, and people at Victory Outreach Church we attended on Sunday. Two girls Anna and Leah have been teaching me their language here, which is very difficult and hard to pronounce, but they were so happy they were helping me learn. They were very proud to be my teachers! I met a great little boy Joel after church and he was so excited to hear that I was from Canada. He said “O Canada that is the country I love”. It was great! He wanted me to tell him stories of my country and my family, and asked if he could come to Canada with me, and it was so hard to say no. I am so excited about starting ministry this week and starting to build relationships with the people of Lira, Uganda. When we were driving around in Lira, the people looked very stern and not very friendly. But we realized all you had to do was smile and wave, and they would laugh, smile and wave back. I realized just how easy it is to change a frown into a smile and to brighten someone’s day.
