Hey everybody,
I am posting this on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, after the fourth day of Adventures in Mission Real Life Training. I will be posting a blog on a weekly basis, and will be using I to share my experiences on the mission field in Africa. Training camp has been a very interesting experience for me. When my flight landed in Atlanta, we went to a homeless shelter in the city. There we unloaded our stuff, and then set off on a first night of ministry; street-evangelism to the homeless and needy people on the streets of Atlanta. I was very skeptical of this, because I have never been a huge fan of street evangelism, because it lacks a personal relationship, and follow-up with the people. Even if they were to accept Christ, then what? You leave, and there is no further discipleship or evangelism. My group went out, and really didn’t accomplish much, but it did open my eyes the benefits of this process.
The following morning we left the city to spend the rest of our training time at a camp in the woods outside of Atlanta. There are actually 5 teams here at training who will go out to different places around the world and serve after this. There are teams heading to India, Nicaragua, Southeast Asia, Kenya, and my group, Uganda. Since arriving at the camp we have been doing a variety of different activities to prepare for the trip. We have spent our time each day either in worship, team-building, evangelism or cultural seminars. All of the stuff on ministry and culture have been really interesting and helpful.
I cannot wait to head out to Uganda. Thank you to all who have supported me. I would love to continually be in your prayers.
In Christ,
Zach
