This is not Brentwood

I have been gone for just over a week and I miss the comforts of my home. I miss my family, my friends, food anytime I want, and especially HOT SHOWERS! But even though I miss all that, there’s not a place in the entire world I would rather be. I love this place, and yesterday was just my first day in Lira. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for the rest of our trip.

We have experienced 16 hours on a plane, 5 hours waiting at a bus station, and over 31 hours of bus travel on roads that would send you flying out of your seat every few seconds. But my personal favorite was being stuck at the Kenya-Uganda border for almost seven hours. It would have been very easy to get upset or discouraged during these 4 days of traveling and I am sure I would have if it hadn’t been for my team. My team consists of 8 girls……and me. Coming into this trip that’s the only thing that I was having apprehensions about. Now, I wouldn’t trade any of these girls for another boy. It’s only been a week but we are all so close. The second night that any of us had ever met each other, they all ganged up on me and forced me to put on eyeliner. They are a great group of girls that I can’t wait to watch grow. Being the only guy, other than our leader, in a dangerous country I know that I have a responsibility to look after them and show them what a man of God looks like.

Today I met 3 boys that live at the compound/hotel that we are staying at. They are the sweetest kids I have ever met. I brought out my green bouncy ball that I brought and they thought it was the coolest thing in the world. We played cards, soccer “football”, and keep away. Tomorrow we get to start doing our ministry. Our leaders met with pastor Johnson today and they planned out an entire schedule for us. On Tuesdays we get to work with child soldiers who escaped the LRA. Im so excited! I am going to try to blog once a week, but if we don't its because the Internet here is AWFUL.

Love and miss you all.
