The internet connection has been…trying…today so I don't have much time to write but here goes:
One of the many things God has been teaching me during these past two weeks (cannot believe it has only been two weeks- it feels like we've lived here for months) is an incredible tolerance- or even an enjoyment- or things that would normally really annoy me. Such as…
-Kids accidentally pouring my whole water bottle into my backpack. My poor Bible will forever wear the physical scars.
-Looking, feeling and being dirty. All the time.
-Never doing anything "on time." Times have a strange, ambiguous meaning in Africa.
-My hair being braided and combed and knotted and whatever else happened to it as 20+ gorgeous kids had their way with it for three hours.
Because we are here for months as opposed to a week or two like many mission trips, our ministry looks different. We aren't busy 24/7, and there is a good amount of down time. We take a lot of walks down long, red dirt roads and build relationships with people. We learn to handwash our clothes…hahaha. It's harder than it looks. We show up at the church and figure out what to do and how to serve. We're finding our place here and how best involve ourselves in the community and the culture. It's all kinds of fun and I wish I could tell you everything. But as I said in my last blog, I cannot tell it all. We may be going on a safari next Wednesday so I may not blog for a couple weeks. Your communication means more to all of us than you realize as we all are a bit homesick at times. Thank you for all of your prayers!
