I have almost been in Uganda a month and i have done/experienced so many different things that it would take awhile to explain them all. But the one thing that i really enjoy doing here is building relationships with the people here. The thing is about the Ugandan people is that once you start having a good conversation with them its really easy to open up with them and talk about almost anything since they are naturally open as well. So i would like to expound on some relationships that I have made since ive been here.
The first one was in Kampala when we stayed there for a couple days before traveling 6 hours north to Lira. His name is Steve, 22 and works as the security guy for the compound there. We kicked around the futbol and he even wanted me to teach him how to shoot a basketball and I must say he has pretty good form. We are now friends on FB and I cant wait to get to know him better.
Now that im here in Lira i have met this guy named Erick who works with a school called Victory Outreach school. I asked how he came to know Christ and he said that he was deathly sick and God healed him. Erick said that its a miracle he can even talk and write. He is about my age and really wants to get to know God. He wants to go to Theology school and he wants to write a book called "The Authority of the Believer".
I also enjoy building relationships at the schools we go to. At the Victory Outreach school the kids have taught me how to count to 20 in their language, Luo. They always ask me to count for them when i get there. We also have been to Fountain High School and we have played volleyball both times we have went. Now the people that know me know that this has made me extremely happy and i think my team has seen a new side of me, a very competitive side. But this past monday we were there and on our fourth game of VBall it started to pour and there are five of us left at the school. Our transportation is a 2 door Toyota Rav4 driven by a guy name Patrick. Patrick is awesome and you would just have to meet him to understand how awesome he is. But anyway, he gets back after taking the first part of our team back to the place we are staying. We end up having to take to other ppl with us. So We fit 8 human beings in this 4 seat Rav4 and I couldnt feel the bottom half of my body after our 20 minute drive home, half of it being on river-like dirt roads. IT was epic.
My radio time went fantastic by the way and its 1.5 million ppl not 5. I dont know how i made that mistake but as my friend Timmy Boyer and i like to say, ya win some ya lose some. Uh 2 sundays ago i spoke about the Prodigal son to about 50 prison inmates on the spur of the moment. Im just having a great time over here and thanks for your prayers. A special shoutout to the ABC church fam! Yal are the reason im here and it means alot.
