Can my faith make him whole?

Today made an impact on me. This past week my team and I have been making hospital visits.  They separate the men, women, and children into different wards.  Each ward has thirty-plus beds lined up side by side with no curtains and no privacy.  The warm, stale air is hardly sterile, but nothing about those wards display cleanliness anyway. It’s intimidating to walk in at first, looking at an entire room full of broken people, but as soon as I walk up to that first bed the Holy Spirit completely takes over.  A majority of the patients believe in Jesus, some of...

New Kenyan friends

I absolutely love Kenyan people. They are so friendly and go out of their way to make you feel like you are the most special visitor that has ever come to the city of Busia. All of it stems from their passionate love for the Lord. Everywhere you go, every person that is around comes and greets you by shaking your hand or giving you a hug. When they make eye contact with you they grin from ear to ear. The worship is absolutely incredible to where you can actually feel the Holy Spirit where ever we are. They dance, sing, jump, shout and cry in praise for the Lord. Church services last over...

Following God to the Ends of the Earth

Traveling to Kenya was rough….. We sat in the Atlanta airport for about 8 hours. We took a 14 hour flight to Dubai. Lost Chris for a few hours because they wouldn't let him enter the country without a visa (He's Canadian). Waited for 6 hours in the Dubai airport. Took a 5 ½ hour flight from Dubai to Kenya. Sat in line for about 2 hours to get visas for all 12 people on our team. Took a 45 minute bus ride to our hostel. The leaders didn't get to rest, but got to go buy food and bus tickets. Woke up at 5am the next morning to take an 8 hour bus ride...

Of the Pleasures of the Road.

Although we were blessed to spend our first day relaxing at a backpackers’ hostel in Nairobi, the first six weeks of our trip are to be spent in Busia, Kenya, a moderately-sized town on Kenya’s western border. Thus it happened that we woke around 5 AM in order to make our bus to Busia. Though we’re only a few days into the trip, we’re already learning to keep our expectations relatively simple to avoid being disappointed. (That is not to say that Kenya has failed to please: all I mean is that some of the team members share a moderate dislike for rats in their...

I use to be saved…

On Saturday we left the backpackers hostel at 5:30 am to catch our bus at 7.  As we were finding our seats I noticed that my seat was next to a African man and Zack ( a team mate) was going to sit by a African woman. I asked him to switch seats before I thought about it, he agreed so I sat down next to the woman. About a minute later Zack had to jump up because I had misread the sign and he was in the wrong seat. I still do not understand how I read 5b where it really said 4b but it turns out that my assigned seat was actually next to one of our team mates. I...

Thankful

First of all, let me just say that I love my team.  That's just what we are — a team.  We work so well together in every aspect.  We pick up the slack for one another and help each other out in whatever way possible.  That beng said. Did I mention that we made it to Kenya?!  Ever since we stepped outside of the airport I continue to be surprised in such a good way.  The sky is clear and blue, there's absolutely no humidity, and the breeze gives me goose bumps.  The people here seem really friendly, they get the biggest smiles and wave as we...
