Deeper Places

"Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near." Isaiah 55:6 Soaking in the presence of God can be quite addicting. In the moments that are most dense with God's love, we experience healing, we are restored, we are transformed, we are sanctified. But these moments never look the same. Maybe that is simply God showing off his creativity; nevertheless, every encounter with Jesus is unique and perfectly designed to bring him glory. This love is found in the moments in which we accept son or daughterhood and we trust that God really does care, yet it is...

Oh Africa

Arriving here in AfricaI threw out all expectations of what I thought was going to happen or what I wanted to happen and asked God for openness. I wanted openness to whatever was going to happen. Whether that was being thrown into a classroom with 56 students to teach them, being surrounded by children who all wanted love, making a little girl laughs just by tickling her or driving in a 4 passenger car packed with 8 people. Openness to being on African time, or playing volleyball with teenagers in the rain. I wanted an openness so that God would use me in anyway that he wanted to. ...

Baby Joshua

Everyone tells us we are God’s masterpiece and workmanship, God’s little miracle, or his finished work, but what does this really mean? I sat in a baby orphanage today holding what could have been the most precious baby I have ever seen. His name was Joshua and he was only about 3 months old, but light enough to hold in one hand. His fuzzy black hair and gorgeous brown eyes could sweep any heart into a world of bubbly feelings. For some reason, however, Joshua wouldn’t stop crying so I, in turn, tried every rule in the book to make him fall asleep. I bounced him, rocked...

Faith instead of reason?

I asked God to teach me childlike faith. He did not delay. I didn't have a profound moment in which I understood the mysteries of faith, but questions began surfacing. Have we replaced faith with reason? Trust for logic? Passion for certainty? Hope for Intellect?   Americans often equate best with safe. Kids are often told that their "best" option in college is to get a degree that is accredited by corporations so they can have some sort of financial stability. Pursuing one's dreams is okay as long as its done within the confinement of a stable job or if they...

He stole me..

Meet Kadenge. Kadenge is 2 years old and goes to Kyampisi Children School. He has a little brother and an older sister and an incredible mom that loves the Lord and him. Kadenge was the first child that I picked up in Africa and as soon as I picked him up… I had a feeling that part of me just wasn't going to come back. I don't think I could have been anymore right. Everytime I come into the village the other kids yell for Kadenge and he come running across the compound and jumps up into my arms. He holds on for a little while- runs around for a little while and...

A Smile Can Say A Lot

"And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma" Eph. 5:2. Ever since I stepped foot into the amazing country of Uganda, I felt a sense of beauty and love, not from the dozens of dirt roads, or run down houses, but through the smiles and joy that illuminates from the people here. I never realized that even when a language separates two people, eyes and a smile can say so much more than thousands or words ever could.         The first week our van traversed...
