Impromptu Sanctuary Line Dance!

To truly enjoy and engage with Africa, you have to be willing to sing and dance. Before I got to Uganda, dancing and I had an awkward relationship. As of right now, I've danced in some form or fashion every single day. It has been an interesting experience to say the least, and this Sunday was especially interesting. I was singing with the praise and worship team and for whatever reason it was decided that we should dance off the stage and around the sanctuary. Whoo hoo! Got to love being free. This week has seemed both very long and very short; both hard and wonderful. We started...

By Faith

So I was reading through Hebrews 11 by chance one day and I just wanted to share… It's the whole chapter so get ready but it's so good!  Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for.  3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.  4 By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his...

They named their pig “Darby”!

Ok so my blog doesn't actually have to do with this pig, but a family did name their pig after me! This week I started working with compassion international. It's been a really good experience. I don't know about you guys, but when I see adds for child sponsor programs I get really depressed. You see videos of hungry, sad children with some sad song in the background. If I'm being honest, that's when I usually change the channel. Now don't get my wring, that is the reality of the situation. These kids are hungry, they are lost, and they are looking for love. But...

HIV, High School, and a Gecko

week 3.  On friday our group was able to participate with the HIV support group at Victory Outreach Church.  This is a group of HIV+ people who meet at the church to share their stories and encourage each other in the midst of their struggles with the disease.  The church also distributes food and supplies and has prevention/education as part of the program.  We heard from several people, but I spent some time  talking with one man in particular, Peter.  His wife had died from HIV/AIDS several years ago, he has no job (it's hard to get a job for everyone...

Spears, Jingles and Chicken Hawks

Hey all,  So this week has been all about relationships for me. Relationships with people here and within my team. This week kids went back to school, so that means we had to say goodbye to not only Manuel my little buddy but some of the others as well. That was kind of hard for me because of the relationship we were beginning to build within the first couple weeks of being here and now they have left. But, it has also opened up the door for new relationships that have been there but haven't been able to blossom until now. Like Samuel who is in charge of water and sanitation at the...
