Wow God, You!

A little back story…myself and 3 other team members have connected with a local woman here and her family. Many members of her family are Jehovah's Witness. She is called Grandee, we spoke with her through a member of her family named James (also a JW believer). After our conversation last Saturday about why we can know that Jesus is God (they believe Jesus was the Son of God, but not God), they asked us to come back in a week to discuss the Holy Spirit. They expressed to us how thankful they were that we approached them with love and kindness. They said we did not argue but,...

Yes, I promise I’m not 5 years old….

It's been a pretty heavy week- so I thought it would be fun to light up the mood with an accrostic poem about Lira, Uganda. Enjoy folks! Let's see how many people we can fit into this car! I have no idea what time/day/month it is right now…. R ight after you shower I promise you will get dirty again- save time and don't shower. Anyone else smell that? Under all of this dirt I am super pale, however, right now I'm looking pretty tan (aka The African Spray Tan) God is SO good!!!! A t any given moment you will hear children yelling "munu" (no idea how...

I ate snot!

Ok not really.. but there is a thing (yes i will call it a thing), called boyo.. It of has the texture of snot, smells sort of similar to peanut butter, looks like spinach and snot, and the taste is just not the greatest. We usually eat it (or swallow quickly without tasting it too much) with sweet potatoes, or posha, which is corn mashed up to a potato like consistency. We get this meal once a twice a week at the church, and it is our favorite meal (insert slight sarcasm here)!      But overall, food wise, we are beyond blessed!! Our hotel feeds us...

That’s Milarious!

Hello family and friends!      The 13th of February marked my teams one month anniversary of meeting each other! And what better way to celebrate than all of us going to a local medical clinic to get tested for malaria?? I sure can't think of one! The test was relatively painless, just a small finger prick, and we are all malaria free, so praise the Lord! I actually have not been bitten by one mosquito the entire time I have been in Africa, so thanks to whoever has been praying for that, because it is working!     ...

God is not a vending Machine

Before I came to Uganda, one of my leaders posted about the Prosperity Gospel, and how it is a big issue in Africa. I had never really heard about it, but I now can say I have experienced it. According to Wikipedia, The Prosperity Gospel is a theology that believes that the Bible teaches that financial blessing is the will of God for Christians. The doctrine teaches that faith, positive speech, and Christian Ministries will increase one's Material possessions.  Being made aware of this before I came to Africa, I wondered if I would see or experience it, and I spotted it quite...

Proud to be an American…Now DO!

It's so hard sitting down to blog about my experiences here in Lira. There are so many things that I want to share, so many things that I want to say. So I'll give you a little peek a day earlier this week. From my journal: February 3, 2012 Oh what a day! I'll start with yesterday… Yesterday was a day for quiet time. We compiled a list of 200 things we want to see God do in our lives, in the team, and in Uganda. The quiet time was much needed. Today we are just beginning to flex the muscles we'll be using in ministry. We have a plan of action, and we are eagerly...
