I Praise you In this Storm

Hey all you blog readers Soooo This week has been fairly awesome. On Thursday we got to go SWIMMING… yes SWIMMING in a real pool. It was pretty great and a real blessing from God as I had been struggling with the intense heat. On Friday night God was working in wonderous ways. I had been doubting a bit whether he was really hearing my prayers or not. I had been praying for rain like none other… because this Canadian girl had had ENOUGH of the scortching heat. Near the end of the night we were talking about how great it would be if it rained. All of the sudden we started feeling...

This is Home

We've been here in Uganda for five full weeks now, and I can now say that I truly feel like I live here. Things I used to find strange or hard are commonplace, like ten chickens hanging upside down off of bike handlebars; herds of cows roaming through the streets; standing in the back of a pickup truck as it dodges bikes, trucks, and pedestrians; children freaking out either in fear ("they are fearing") or excitement when they see us; eating some form of potatoes at every meal; the power going out wherever and whenever it wants to; being greeted by the sweet ladies...

johnny snides week 5

First of all I wanted to say sorry for skipping the blog last week.  Jordan and I chose to climb Ngeta "mountain" on our day off instead of blogging – which was a blast.  We rode boda bodas (motorcycle taxis) to this big rocky hill/mountain and climbed up to the super windy top for a sweet view of the surroundings.  Here are a few highlights from this week: Makyla and I got to make dinner with the hotel staff.  We made rice, beans, and chapati (flatbread) in this tiny little kitchen – cooking over charcoal fires.  It was so much...

My Friend Geoffrey

This is the story of my new friend Geoffrey. June 7th, 2000. Geoffrey was attending Senior One at his school about five kilometers outside of Lira, Uganda. He was fifteen years old. One night, a group of LRA soldiers broke into the boys dorm at the school and arrested Geoffrey as well as thirty-eight others. They layed on their stomachs and were tied behind their backs. They were assembled along a roadside and were addressed by someone who told them they may be disturbed bu Ugandan forces. As they made their way through the bush they captured others as well. The way Geoffrey described life...

My song is gonna play on the radio!!

Hello friends and fam! So remember how I told y'all that I have been sharing my songs with some of my teammates, and that God has been really challenging me in terms of being bold for him?? Welp, tomorrow I am going to be singing one of the songs the Lord gave me on the radio! So here's the deal, Victory Outreach Ministries, the church we work with here in Lira, has a radio program that broadcasts to all of Uganda and Sudan. There is a 30 minute window every morning for someone to bring the word of the Lord, and tomorrow morning, that someone is going to be...

this one is not chicken

That is what James, a missionary in South Sudan, told me after he said "You can't be a chicken and go into Sudan". He looked strait at me and said "This one is not chicken". And he's right, I'm not chicken. In the past I've always thought I was a weak person. I would cry whenever someone would say something that was remotely unkind. I fell prey to so many temptations of this world. I allowed chains of depression and anxiety to pin me down for years. And I always assumed that that meant I was weak. Before I went on this trip, God reminded me of His...
