just a little hospital action

On Friday afternoon while our team was meeting with the HIV/AIDS positive living support group at VOC a man crawled through the church doors and collapsed on the ground. He had bad wounds (to the bone) on each ankle as well as a big gash in one of his fingers. The wounds had been poorly stitched at one point in time, but had come apart and were now open and clearly infected. His name was Atim Tony and apparently he had been beaten by a man who found out Tony was sleeping with his wife. Mary, Marissa, (they are going to be top notch nurses) and I took Tony to the hospital in the church...

Harbin-Glorious Warrior

Hello! This week we have started doing morning ministry based off what we have read in the gospels. In our rooms (there are 3 to a room), we are studying what Jesus did when he was on earth, and than doing ministry inspired by that. We were reading the storyof how Jesus fed 5000 with just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. We thought it would be cool to buy 5 chipatti (similar to pita bread or a tortilla), and pass it out by the hospital. We figured even if Jesus didn’t multiply the bread for 5000 people, he would work in some way! We decided that we would head by...

Apparently I’m on a Rugby Team

One of the neat opportunities we've had has been to build a relationship with a local rugby team. We met the captain and coach one day at church and they invited us to come and watch the team practice and give a message to the guys. Jordan and I showed up to practice on Thursday and ended up actually practicing with the team – going through a few non-contact drills wearing khakis and a polo (we were expecting to just be watching). It was really fun to just get to run around and do some guy stuff and once practice was finished the team gathered around and was really receptive to...

Congratulations!! You have a baby!

A couple of days back, our team leaders gave us the task of meeting with our roommates, searching the Gospels, and then going out and living as the disciples did. Darby, Ally Reed, and I decided that we were going to feed 5,000 people with 5 chapatis. Chapatis are pretty much the African equivalent of 5 loaves of bread. So we decided to buy 5 chapatis and then to pass them out to people waiting to get into the hospital.      We first bought our five chapatis, and it was cool because there were exactly 5 chapatis left at the cart we stopped at....

SHE PICKED UP HER MAT AND WALKED

Monday morning my two room-mates and I got up not expecting much of the day. We were tiered and ready for our day off. Our team leaders sent us out to "do as Jesus did". So what did we decided to do? Feed 5,000. We were debating whether we should get 5 chapatti or 7. When we got to the chapatti stand there were only 5 left. We were excited because Jesus only had 5 loaves of bread available to him, so it was perfect! We decided to go to the hospital to hand out the chapatti outside where people were waiting. We prayed over the chapatti (yes folks, we stood on the side of the...

Me and Mary pushed the truck cause it ran out of gas.

So right now, I’m sitting in the HIV/AIDS office. I usually don’t blog till I have internet access, but at the moment there’s only work here for one of us sooo… Ally’s doing it  😀 …I promise I offered to.    I know that people in America are aware of the problems with HIV and AIDS in Africa, but it’s definitely something that has been consistently reaffirmed while working in this office.  Several times a week we just go through names and names and names of the people in various districts around here who are coming to Victory...
