R.I.P. Florence.

Been a pretty good week! Let's see. Jordan killed my duck. See his blog for the gruesome details. I feel like it has kind of been a week of ridiculousness. For instance, Mary and me being able to scrub into surgery whenever we want to. Or the fact that we presented a dance to a Christian rap song at a wedding. Not only that, but I did a backbend in this particular number. The fact that I haven't taken gymnastics since I was 10 didn't seem to matter, so that was a plus. I also wrote a song/rap with my dear friend innocent who is under the impression that we are going to be...

I ate Obama

This week I don't have much to share with you, which might be a pleasant surprise after the past few weeks of me rambling on and on and on. It's been a pretty good week! I have enjoyed spending time with my team-mates, ladies at Alpha, and people in the community. Our team presented a skit in church on Sunday that went EXTREMELY well I think. We were all really encouraged by people's responses. Other than that, nothing too major has happened! Except for the time that I ate my own vomit. Ok so it wasn't literally my vomit, but it might as well have been. It was the most...

In Chains for the Gospel…don’t worry mom

Last week I wrote about my experiences with a man named Jaspher and how he came to faith in Christ.  Since then Carrie-Anne, Makyla, Darby, Logan and I went back to his home to visit him, but found out that he had been arrested for something – his wife was somewhat flustered and when she explained why he was arrested she said something about him preaching to people which we didn’t really understand, but then ultimately said he was arrested for idling.  She was going to visit him in prison, so we sent her with my Bible and an encouraging note to read while in...

Stitches, Skits, and Salvation!

Well, the good news is that I have officially crossed being a nurse off of my list of possible occupations that I could have in my life. The bad news is that I had to give a poor innocent African man stitches in his hand in order to figure that out. So here’s the story, last week Dr. Henry had told me that I could help assist him in surgery the next time I was at the hospital. However, last Monday, there were no surgeries occurring because it was a holiday. Then as I was visiting patients in the male surgical ward, Dr. Henry...

I’m a Streetwalker

I'm a Streetwalker… Yup. It's true. I am writing to let you all know that I am a streetwalker. There is an organization that we are volunteering with called Child Restoration Outreach (CRO). It is a NGO for street children that feeds them one hot meal a day, provides them a place to bathe and wash their clothes, and offers Christian counseling to the children in the hopes of reconciling them to their families (in cases where they actually have a family, which some of them do not). Yesterday was my team's day to volunteer there and we chose to arrive early so we could walk...

Don’t Mess with an Angel!

Ello friends and fam! Sorry for my lack of a blog last week, but I spent my entire Wednesday on a bus ride back to Uganda. The good news is that the bus ride back to Uganda was infinitely more pleasant than the ride to Kenya : ) Our bus on the way home actually had shocks on it so every bump we hit did not send us a foot into the air, lol. Also, we drove over the equator, which was really cool! I have been in two states at once, but I’ve never been on both sides of the world at the same time, so that was neat!...
