I am handicap

I am perfectly healthy and am incredibly blessed and sometimes I struggle to remember to be thankful to the Lord who gave it all to me.   On Fridays we walk around the town of Lira and do “hut to hut” evangelism. This is such an incredible experience to meet some of the local people and build relationships with them. Last Friday we met 3 people in a family of many:  2 brothers, Tom and Julius, and a sister named Lydia. As we walked up to them we realized Tom was handicap. He began yelling and running around. Once our translator saw this he kept saying "he's...

Our Sunday Battles

We stood there, about to step into what felt like the Roman Colosseum, armed with only our Bibles and water bottles. The loud chants of the crowd and pounding of drums, we knew that this battle was not going to be an easy one. When the gates swung open and the bright light shone upon us, we stepped out onto the battlefield knowing that this fight was one that we must fight. Even though I am not the strongest or wisest among us, I was leading the charge. I had prepared all week to lead us into battle and was confident in my abilities, but still did not know how the outcome of the battle...

Break my heart for what breaks Yours.

Blogging is so difficult. It’s hard to put into words what’s been going on. I haven’t had that,”I’m in Africa” moment. Basically the whole time I’ve been here I’ve been numb. My heart is hard, and I haven’t wanted to soften it because I know it will break. It will break my heart to see everything around me. And it will change me forever. Africa has been such a culture shock and has been really overwhelming at times. But amongst all of these feelings, I know my “This is real life. I’m in Africa” moment is coming. And...

3. oh precious child

I looked down and she was just there, reaching her arms up to be held. I picked her up and she clung to me. Sitting down I wrapped my arms around her and rocked her back and forth. She looked to be about 5 years old. "My name is Sandra" she barely whispered when I asked for her name. Her body was burning hot against mine. She must be sick, I thought to myself as I continued to hold her close. I watched the other children running and playing while my mind spaced out. I was tired after a long week of traveling and transitioning into life here. Eventually Sandra seemed to gain energy...

Light of the World.

Today marks one week that my team and I have been in Africa! Already we have experienced so much, and see hurt in people that you couldn't fathom without being here to witness it. We've met a blind lady well into her fifty's, prisoners that never will taste freedom again, children begging for the gum out of your mouth just to get a taste, and the sweetest little girl that you can imagine and finding out from her mom that she is dying of HIV/AIDS. Despite all of this hurt and pain, there is a light that just shines from these people unlike any I have ever seen. Their faces light...

99 hours later…

We finally arrived in Lira, Uganda. I'm not going to repeat these events, just check out my other team mates blogs and you will understand the crazy adventure I have already been on. Satan has been attacking me ever since I left Texas. 2 hours before I was boarding the plane, I found of a very good friend of mine from home had passed away. And along with the "adventure" we went on. Regardless to all that, God is SO faithful. He has proven to me over and over again He knows what He is doing. My team is a team of champions! We are all so different and unique, but each bring...
