Maggots

Before I arrived in here, I had a few pre-existing expectations about Africa. One was that bugs are a common dish; you know, crickets, worms, and maggots. So far, I haven’t enjoyed this delicacy as much as I thought I would, but I definitely had some encounters, and unfortunately, they weren’t as culturally enlightening as I had hoped. Once, I decided to roast a giant grass hopper and popped it in my mouth. It was ok. My next experience wasn’t quite as ok; I wasn’t expecting it.   At Alpha Hotel, there are these trees that bear a fruit I have never seen...

Funny Things

Dear bloggies-   I have come to realize that my last few blogs have been very serious.  And though seriousness is needed in life sometimes, I would say, and hope that you agree, that comedy is quite essential to the survival of human kind.  So, in this blog, I will tell you about some of our funniest moments.   One day we were walking up the stairs to the roof where we occasionally hang out.  Jalin was behind Kayla in the line and Kayla heard a thunk.  Once we got to the roof and were off the stairs, Kayla turns around to ask Jalin, “Did you drop...

the VAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!!!!

Welcome blog readers! So I know if you have looked at all the other blogs this week, you are probably tired of this topic, but it’s SUUUUPPPEEEERRRRR IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!   We have been so blessed by the staff here at Alpha Hotel and we couldn’t ask for better. It often breaks down and is constantly causing the Alpha staff time and money to fix. As a team, we prayed hard about this disabling...

A Gift

Many of you have heard about the Alpha van.  It is the ministry van.  The Alpha van is used for many more things than just the team’s transport.  The van is sometimes used as the employees’ transportation, as well as the family of the employees, and it has often saved a random pedestrian from a 3 mile walk into town.  Unfortunately, the Alpha van is old and tends to break down a lot.  It puts quite a lot of stress on the Alpha staff (Alpha is the hotel we stay at, which is associated with our church) when it breaks down, because it means transporting...

The Day After

This past weekend was a truly great weekend.  My team and the team in Kenya had the opportunity to go to Jinja, Uganda for mid-debrief where we talked with some AIM staff about what God has done through us thus far on the trip, where we went rafting down part of the Nile River, and where we got rest from the busy life of a missionary.  It was truly amazing.  But even more amazing than super fun rafting or the exquisite ice cream and the unbelievably needed rest was the day after returning from Jinja.   Yesterday we had an unexpected ministry opportunity pop-up.  One...
