all the small things.

we are a people that desires big things. big TVs, big cars, big houses. we even want big food portions. welcome to the "super size me" generation. we have big dreams and want big moments. but what if our BIG God has little moments for us? what if it's thte moments like watching a woman scrape chipati dough off her bare hand with a knife that make life worth living? what if we're so busy expecting big things that we overlook the beauty in the little ones? these past two and a half months have definitely brought some big moments like learning to give stitches and kissing a...

Kenya or Bust!

Well the journey to Kenya was interesting to say the least. It all started around 2:30pm on Friday, March 23rd. We arrived at the Kampala Coach Bus Station waiting for our bus that was supposed to arrive at 4pm. Of course while sitting there, the bus workers handed us a brochure about the Kampala Coach, which spoke of it’s free meals, 46 inch tvs, and how we were about to ride in Luxury.. LIES!! The bus arrives not so promptly around 6pm. We get on to find that there is not even enough seats for us even though we paid for 13. So for the first 2 hours, I sat in the aisle of the bus....

“This is the worst part of being a doctor”

That isn't the most comforting sstatement when you're the one wearing the gloves. Dr. Henry asked for my left hand so he could aapply the lube. He then instructed me to scoop the lube with my right hand pointer finger. The 98 year old African man laying on the bed had no teeth in his mouth and a blank stare on his face. “I am going to America!”

Her 8 year old self doesn't have an ounce of doubt in her voice as she declares that she is going to America. Her name is Oliver and her personality is as vibrant as her bright purple uniform. The first day I met her I found her a little pushy and never would have guessed that she would pull on my heart strings the way she does. There are days that her smile is the one thing that keeps me going. I ask her if she will visit me when she comes to America and she can barely get a yes out through her giggling. Her bright eyes bring more joy to my life than I ever could have imagined. S...

You Are Beautiful Like a Monkey

Yin icil chalo ayom! (You are beautiful like a monkey in the local language, Luo) I was told this this week by my wonderful friend Oliver! 😉 I have A LOT to say, but I really feel like my team said it all this week. So for my family and friends following this blog, I ask that you take time to read their blogs this week. All I will leave you with is a request for prayer this Friday (or Thursday night back home). I will be bringing the word of the Lord, a.k.a. preaching at Lunch Hour Prayer at Victory Outreach Church. Blessings to you all in Jesus name! Somer Rae
