Let the Culture Shock Begin!

To say that training camp has been full of delicious “last” meals, wonderful rest, and luxurious housing might be a stretch of the imagination. The AIM staff has made sure that our teams get a taste (literally) of the different cultures and lifestyles we will be experiencing the next two months. Other than unique food experiences this camp has been full of God’s absolute presence and incredible team bonding and unity unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of. Fear and Doubt and past Shame have been consuming my thoughts and heart during this camp. We talked multiple...

My Summer Family

Although it has only been 4 days, I feel like I’ve known my team forever! To be completely honest, I wasn’t super excited about training camp, I was just so ready to be in Uganda- but these past few days have truly been a blessing! Since the first day, our team has had AWESOME unity. From evangelizing to the homeless on the streets of downtown Atlanta to making a human pyramid during team building to painting our mission for the trip on a huge canvas- we are all continuously praying for each other, encouraging each other, and loving on each other! I had a really hard time...

A whole new world

Howdy yall,   After 4 day I am now getting ready to not only leave all my friends and all my family, but also the comforts that i have grown to expect and never appreciate. My bed, a working bathroom (shower, sink, mirror, and toilet), a rain proof room, etc. and of course being so kind A.I.M. has taken these comforts away the second we walked on the property.    Oh, but the people here make up for anything possesion that i gave up to come here. I have 23 amazing teammates and 2 wonderful leaders that i know will help to shine God’s love to all parts of Uganda. Its...

Challenges

“Ehhh this will be a piece of cake.” “I LOVE meeting new people!” This was my philosophy when coming into training camp and boy was I wrong about the easy part! But it has been hard and challenged me in the best, and most glorious way! Every fear that I came with has been calmed and the team and leaders have challenged me to lengths I never thought possible! From the minute we arrived in Atlanta, Georgia for training camp  I have been presented with challenges that make me step out of my comfort zone. Our first...

LET’S DO THIS.

Training Camp.. my initial thought — hmm, just like youth camp back in the day?? WRONG! When we got into Atlanta we were sent on a well, kinda sorta scavenger hunt, if you will, to find out next destination. After trodding through the streets of Atlanta in the tsunami (ha not literally, just a lot of rain, although I wouldn’t be surprised after getting back from Guatemala less than 24 hours before where there was an earthquake, volcano, tropical storm, mud slides, and of course a sink hole) we arrived at the Atlanta, Georgia safehouse, a homeless shelter downtown. Later that...

Sweet Surrender

When we walked into our evening session on Saturday all 154 of us were handed an egg.  And we were all confused.  We were told that we couldn’t let the egg leave our person until ‘further notice.’  Trying to worship with that egg was a challenge.  I wish there were words to describe the incredible worship experiences we’ve had these past few days.  Lives have been changed, people have been pulled from places they didn’t even know they were and into the glorious joy and light that is Jesus.  It’s been amazing, incredible and...
