Hello Radio Lira…This is Katy speaking!

Yes. Somehow I have found myself the new host of a radio show here in Lira, Uganda. Preaching to about 1.5 million people all over Uganda, the Congo and Sudan from 6:30am to 6:45am. Ironic isn’t it? I, who feel like I have barely learned anything about my own faith am actually talking about my faith daily on the radio to millions of people. With a translator of course to help sort out my crazy American accent.   So, every morning thus far, I get up and try to think of something profound to say. And after trying to think my most profoundest, I...

Nancy School for the Deaf

On Tuesday, two of my teammates (Danielle and Travis) and I piled into a car with kindhearted African man named Peter, and set off for the Nancy School for the Deaf, a primary and secondary combined school at which Peter is a teacher.  Thanks to the language barrier and the “TIA” (This Is Africa; go with the flow) mentality, none of us knew quite what to expect.  The fact that none of us had much experience with special needs children, coupled with an added language barrier (African Sign Language is NOT the same as American!) only added to our nervousness. Teee Eye Aaayyy

T.I.A.   This. Is. Africa.   Forget clean clothes, feeling like you’re clean when you get out of the shower, air conditioning, reliable transportation, talking to your family, and don’t even THINK about expecting someone to be on time. This Is Africa, and every sacrifice is one-hundred percent worth it when a beautiful child smiles up at you, and you can see pure joy in their eyes.   I have been priveleged to be working this week within Fountain Primary School, a school that specializes in Christian counseling for children traumatized by the civil war. Many...

Field Update

Well, we have made it! After two flights and a stolen night (time flies when you’re flying against time), we made it to Entebbe, Uganda in the evening of the 10th. However, we did not realize that the Kampala team would be leaving right away for Gulu, in the northern part of Uganda, for a week of (more) missions with the...

arrived in Uganda!

I just heard from the team leaders and the team has arrived safe and sound in Uganda.  They are settling in for the night with their host and all is well.  The team is in good spirits and very excited for what’s to come.  They’ll be finding internet and posting blogs as soon as they can.  Thank you for your prayers!

Doing A New Thing

As I’ve left my home, my family, my friends, my bed, my routine (and warm) shower, and my comfort, the Lord has begun to radically work in my life. He has brought me to a place of many unknowns, many questions, and many experiences which force me to drop expectations and surrender many things that I’ve clung to, dedicating myself to living in a way that does not acknowledge comfort or safety. God is in this place. He is moving in the hearts of His children and preparing us for the many great things that He has planned for us in Uganda over these next 2 months. Although there...
