More of You

It is Monday, which means that it is our team's day of rest from ministry where we do much-needed laundry, adventures in the town, team building, dwelling in the Lord's presence, and updating you all back home.       I feel as though I have already experienced and learned so much that it is difficult to know where to start in sharing anything close to an adequate testimony of these last few days. The land and people here are absolutely beautiful, and yet at the same time my heart breaks for the poverty...

A Sign Of Love

Together With One Accord            Lira is almost impossible to describe. Emily, Travis and I are getting involved at a local Deaf school here and I am currently falling in love with it and the kids there. I can’t wait to learn more of the signs and be able to better communicate with them. It is such a passion given directly from the Lord! During introductions one day one boy started signing super fast to us and we were of course clueless. As we stood there wondering what in the world he was saying the translator started to smile. I knew...

Finding God in the Wilderness

After my 13th day in Africa, my 11th in Lira, I can certainly say that Africa is nothing what I expected. So far, it has been a little difficult to organize our ministry and I don’t try to pretend that we have it all together. We have been working with Victory Church and doing a lot of cool stuff, partnering in various ministries with them; many of us have gone to worked in primary schools, secondary schools, a school for the deaf, agriculture, Compassion international, an AIDs/HIV support group in the church, and even a day program they have for children at the church on Saturdays....

One boy in Africa

After arriving in the country we set off to our dwelling place which is in the capital city, Kampala- I am suprised to see the beauty of this country, despite the burning of trash all around the street sidewalks and utter poverty all around- the nature, beautiful night skies and HUGE diversity of trees shows God’s handywork in this nation!    After a breif stay in Kampala, our team ventured off to the city of GULU, which is a recovering war zone from the attacks of the rebels 20 years earlier. God has used us in mighty ways so...

Hope to the Hopeless

Nancy's eyes held all the hope I could ever imagine to encounter. Her smile was completely perfect and her hugs were comparable to warm sunshine after a week of snow. This little girl was God's perfect way of showing me exactly how much He loved me, and the rest of His children. Her torn clothes, snotty nose, and dirty hands are reasons I love this country. Two hours with this little baby, and I fell in love. Life is vibrant and completely different: a change that God has been waiting 18 years for me to discover.    After 14 school ministries, 1 prison...

African Dance Party

“Life is a dance party for these Africans” (Samantha). This statement made by Samantha describes the journey we have seen so far in Africa. That is 1) they love to dance 2) they love to sing 3) they love to do both at the same time. They are some of the most joyful and loving people. That does not just include our Ugandan friends that we got to travel to Gulu and minister beside. But also the children we encountered of all ages. We first got to experience the enthusiastic worship at the Church of the Resurrection in Bugolobi before we left, but each journey we took around Gulu...
