“Never Give Up”

So I wear this bracelet… it is really simple…. it's red and the material of a "Livestrong" bracelet but it reads "Never Give Up." When I started wearing this bracelet 6 months ago, it was to support my Uncle Steve in his courageous batter with ALS. Everytime I would look at it I would think "Never give up Uncle Steve," "with God all things are possible and you WILL overcome this." I had all the hope in the world that he would overcome this illness because he was such a strong man and loved life. On March 26,2010, he...

You are Loved

Kabale, Uganda can only be described in one word: AmazinglyMagnificent&BeathtakinglyBeautiful.   I found myself many times drooling after just looking at the mountains. Ok, not really but in all seriousness, the place is completely gorgeous and I am begging you to visit. The only way I can sort of explain it to those who have never been is that the mountains are literally like God’s huge arms wrapping around you. We were constantly in His embrace all snuggled up in the valleys of Kabale, and that feeling is amazing.   So Saturday night, the Lord actually gave me that...

God is AmaZing

Hey everyone!  God is doing so much here in Africa.  So I'll try and tell you all about it.  The first week we got here we went to do school ministry.  The north is beautiful. Everything is very green and lush and the sky is amazing.  While there we went to about 15 different schools to do school ministry.  We went with a local team from a church in Bugolobi a city right next to Kampala.  Everyone from the team was great and I enjoyed working with them.  What we did was go to different schools in the area of Gulu and did programs there. ...

Muzungu in the Mist

This past week we were able to travel to the area of Kabale in southwest Uganda. Kabale is one of the most beautiful and fertile areas in Uganda with endless hillsides quilted with terraced farm plots. The people grow everything from bananas and irish potatoes to sorgum and maize. We were welcomed into Juna Amangara Ministries by Mr Herbert and his family who operate the orphanage, schools and other programs out of Kishanje near Kabale. We worked in school ministry seeking to spread the love of Jesus to the students and teachers. This last week our ministry looked very similar to what we...

All These Things That I’ve Done

This week flew by in one aspect, but in another way it feels like forever. Some things that happened this week:   1. I ate goat, and it wasn’t that bad. 2. Braedon and Audrey are both now with the Kampala team, so the Lira team is alive and kickin’ with Brent as our leader. 3. 90’s worship songs were the hit this weekend— Amy Grant anyone? 4. I got my hair braided by some of the staff at Alpha, where we are staying. 5. As a team we handwashed almost everyone’s laundry–if you wanna see family, check out the Americans washing and wringing out...

A Girl Named Lucy

So this story may not exactly have the outcome that most of you expect, but far from being a dissapointment, I think it’s just a prime example of God’s ways not being ours. It doesn’t have the cookie cutter ending hollywood tells us makes a good sotry, but I’m pretty sure in God’s book it’s just as important as any other great story. It certainly ranks up there in my book as an amazing testament to God’s.. well.. awesomness!   So there’s this blind girl who sits in front of the local bank, begging alms. Not an altogether uncommon sight...
