A Pride of…Lambs?

"Let love explode and bring the dead to life! My God's not dead! He's surely alive and He's lively on the inside roaring like a lion!" – David Crowder The newly blue school building stands as a lamb perched in a society of lions. Friday night Pauline, who has been helping take care of us at Jesus House, gave us an Egyptian saying to put God's leadership into perspective. "An army of lions led by a lamb can be defeated by an army of lambs led by a lion." Those here at Kyampisi Child Care and Ministry are lambs led by THE Lion of Judah against an...

Warrior Hearts

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the Ugandan people since I’ve been here, it’s that they are strong, in every way it’s possible to be strong. It’s not at all uncommon to see 5-year-old lugging around their one-year-old siblings on their backs or hips like they’re feather-light. Women carry enormous baskets of bananas and pineapples on their heads, hands-free, without breaking a sweat. We drink the water or eat the lettuce and we’re in bed for three days; they get malaria on a regular basis, like it’s the common cold, and...

Many Parts, But One Body

“As it is, there are many parts, but one body.” (1 Corinthians 12:20)   It is amazing how God has been working through the body of Christ that Paul talks about in 1 Corinthians 12. It is becoming very clear that we all have different gifts and that God has arranged us to be right where He wants us to be. And each person, with each gift, is necessary for our team to function as one body. And also, as a whole...

Oh The American Things We Do (or “It’s African Good”)

When traveling to a foreign country, there is no doubt you are gong to be taken our of your comfort zone, experience some sort of culture shock, and have to learn how to adjust to a maybe more primitive lifestyle than the one you are used to or a completely different way of living. In order to stay sane and to keep some feeling of normalcy, sometimes you may just have to invite a little of your own familiar culture into the one you are currently residing (keeping in mind of course that you may have to compromise with a few things if your new culture doesn’t exactly have the exact same...

A different kind of fireworks.

Thank you to everyone for your continuous thoughts and prayers. I know God is listening. He is teaching me so much about Himself and myself. He is performing major heart surgery on me. Yesterday my team and the staff at Alpha Resort gave me a great birthday celebration complete with music and african cake. This year the fireworks were in our mind’s eye instead of the sky. I got this awesome maroon african shirt with beautiful patterns on it as well as some baby bananas. This past week was spent with a team from Portland, Oregon who were leading a crusade here in Lira. The last crusade...

Mom and Dad… Can’t say I didn’t warn you!

Being in a new place for quite a while makes picking up habits pretty easy, so mom and dad, this is your warning!    – If I wake up in the morning, go outside and start bathing with a huge basin of water… don't worry, as soon as I see our neighbors, I will quickly run back inside! -If I sit at the table and just expect food to appear… I'm sorry, I just haven't had to cook in 2 months! – If you go outside and see my laundry hanging all over the place… don't worry, my "nickers" won't be out there because that is...
