“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” Eph 5:18

Last week we went to an island on Lake Victoria and we saw how sad and depressed some of these people are. Most of them are fishermen and they ALL live in wooden shacks. Some nights they go to sleep with prostitutes and spend most of their money on alchohol. On Tuesday, our first full day there, we went door to door witnessing, with about three mzungu (white people) per translator. As our group was entering the village we saw about four men lounging around so we decided to tell them about Jesus. One of them wore a shirt that said "The Lord is my Shepherd"...

Just like us

On Thurday nights at the Kyampisi church, our team leads a Bible study for the children. When looking back on many of the Bible stories I was taught in Sunday school, I was in awe of how a small boy named David killed the giant Goliath, how Joshua prayed the sun would stand still so he would win a battle that God promised victory over, and how Elijah prayed that the rain would stop for three years to show they power of his God. I can easily get caught up in lies that only these "great Bible characters" can have enough faith for these events to happen. But, we have the same God who...

Experiencing My Unknown

The unknown is such an interesting, simple, beautiful thing. How much of our lives do we spend trying to figure out the unknown? That's exactly where I've been the past few months, only to face the fact that I DON'T NEED TO figure it out… Thats why it's the unknown right? So, here I am, Real Life Training Camp 2011. I've never KNOWN diversity like this. I've never KNOWN community like this, I've never KNOWN worship like this. I've never KNOWN leaders like this, or people, or The Spirit, or God's Voice, or Passion, or movement, or excitement, or...

Rat poop in my Tea…

It all started with the delicious tea that is placed on the table every morning around 9am. Hope and I both did our daily squeal of excitement when we saw it and headed for the table. Hope handed me a mug and we both filled our cups with the amazing steaming hot beverage, I sat down to drink my tea as my team filled their plates and returned to the sitting area where we eat. I was getting to the bottom of my cup of tea when I noticed a foreign taste. One more sip and the reason for the strange taste became painfully clear. There were three mouse turds in the bottom of my cup, from...

Atlanta,Dubai, Kenya!!!!

I’m sitting in the Milinani Backpackers Hostel, I can’t tell you how long it took to get here because of all the time changes I got confused. Haha ðŸ™‚  We left for the Atlanta airport on January 19th around 11 am. We just arrived here about an hour ago, 11 am January 21st. What I have seen of Kenya is beautiful but I can’t wait to see more! My heart has been stirred over these past hours of travel and I am insanely excited about arriving in Busia tomorrow. In christ, Kaitlyn Joy
