The Found Coin

Today after a morning building a well, our team went throughout the village of Kyampisi doing evangilism. Four of us and a translator headed a mile or so down the dirt road and felt that we should go to the two locals bars and talk to people there. The first bar we went to had no customers, just one lady working, waiting for people to come. As a team we decided to leave.

I was instantly convicted and reminded of the parable of the lost coin. In this parable, a woman rejoices over finding one lost coin, in the same way that angels rejoice when one person becomes a Christian. Instead of telling the team about my thoughts, we continued to the next bar that had many people there. We split into groups again, and two of us plus a translator talked to a woman who had us come to her house to pray healing over dauhter; then we prayed for a pregnant woman who was worried about a miscarriage.

After this, I finally told the two people I was evangalizing with about the parable and conviction that God put on my heart. They had the same feeling so we went back to the first bar. We ordered some cokes, ate some roasted peanuts and met Sylvia "Sissi". She seemed shameful and like she did not feel worthy of talking to us about God. I was able to share a little bit of my testimony with her and about God's unconditional love. It was obvious what we were saying was sinking in; her heart was pumping and she was breathing faster as we shared of God's love despite our sins and His pursuit of her.

When she told us she wanted to get saved, I was dancing and shouting on the inside. This woman, who was shameful and felt unworthy, was ready to accept the endless love God was giving to her. This was not the first time on this trip that I have been a part of someone's salvation, but it was the first time that I truely felt like I understood the parable of the lost coin. I was rejoicing with the angels as this ONE sinner repented.

“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?  And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’  In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over ONE sinner who repents.” Luke 15:8-10
