Hello family and friends!
The 13th of February marked my teams one month anniversary of meeting each other! And what better way to celebrate than all of us going to a local medical clinic to get tested for malaria?? I sure can't think of one! The test was relatively painless, just a small finger prick, and we are all malaria free, so praise the Lord! I actually have not been bitten by one mosquito the entire time I have been in Africa, so thanks to whoever has been praying for that, because it is working!
I also had the privilege of giving a voice lesson to the praise and worship team yesterday at practice. In Africa, a lot of things are kind of fly by the seat of your pants. So when the entire praise and worship team is looking at you and asking you to teach them how to make their voices, "loud and melodious" you just have to get up and do it, haha. It ended up being a lot of fun! We practiced breathing from the diaphragm and then how to sing warm ups and scales. All the praise and worship team members were very appreciative and even though I thought I was teaching them very basic aspects of singing, it seemed to make a very big impact on them. Y'all know I love to sing, and it is just awesome how much God has been using that during my time here.
Also, some of my teammates and I lead a girls' bible study at a local high school here in Lira. This past week when we were there, we met a lovely girl named Deborah. She spoke English very well, so we talked to her for a long time about the African culture and her life. Since we are all girls, we just love talking about love and engagements and weddings. So, we asked her a lot of questions about how that works in Africa. She explained to us a little about most marriages here and that people don't really marry for love, they marry due to financial concerns. I asked her if she thought she would be in love when she gets married, and she looked at me with full sincerity and said, "No, I don't believe in love. " This made my team get very quiet because we knew she meant it, and that she was not even sad about it, it was just a fact of her life. I don't know why I was so touched by her, but I just really hope that God provides her with a husband that makes her believe in love.
I think that's all for now. Thanks for reading and for praying! My team and I recently wrote out our goals for what we would like to see happen/start to happen during our time here in Lira. There are some pretty big things on this list of ours. Please be praying that God is working on these goals both while we are here and long after we leave.
Peace and Blessins!
Sarah
