Stella’s Joy

I am daily astonished by the people we have met here Uganda.  Monday this week was an amazing day for us as a team, because we got so much encouragement from the Ugandans we have met and been ministering to.

I’ve already told you about Quinto and how his dream had come true, but I have yet to tell you about Stella and how God is working with her.

Stella is a woman we met during our first week in Uganda.  One morning, we decided to go on a prayer walk.  While we were on our prayer walk, God kept telling us which direction to go, and who to pray for as we passed them.  After a couple of turns and a very long walk, we ended up in Stella’s front yard.  She was standing out front with two of her children and talking to one of her neighbors.  We went to greet her and the children as her neighbor walked away, and the very first thing Stella did was give us a huge smile and a warm welcome.

“I love visitors,” Stella said as she led us to her house, “I am so glad you have come to see me.”  Then she pulled out some chairs and a mat for us to sit on and we talked.  We learned that Stella has four children and her husband works in the busier part of town while she works in the small shop in front of her house as a seamstress.  After talking to her about her life for a while, we asked if she had a relationship with Jesus, and if we could pray for her.  Yes, she knows Jesus, and she asked for us to pray for peace in her home.  After praying and giving her a Bible to keep, we left with promises of coming back to visit some other day.

We have visited Stella several times since then, and for quite a few different reasons; One visit to Stella was to ask if she would make us bags to buy, another time to heal her sons of malaria, and other times just to talk to her.

Our visit on Monday started with some chatting and asking how her work is going.  Just as our conversation was starting to die down a bit, Stella started telling us about how God is good for bringing us to her.  She said her business as a seamstress was not good before we asked her to make us bags, and she felt no joy about life.  But since praying for her the very first day, her home has had peace, and then she told us of how healing her son has changed everyone’s lives.

“One day he said to me, ‘Mommy, are they the ones who healed me?’ and I said yes.  I think you are helping his faith in God and now one day he will testify it.  He will never forget how good God is.”
That was all the encouragement we could ever have needed, but then she thanked us for making her home and village better, and told us that she thanks God for us every day.  God really is using us.  He chose this team to touch lives here in Uganda, and He is using us to change lives and bring them closer to Him.

It is so good to hear how God has been using us, and it gives me a new energy and passion to serve the Lord.
