We have a wonderful home in Busia, Kenya with actual toilets!!!! Granted they don’t always flush and a teammate found a rat drowning in one the other morning…but TIA. All nine of us girls are in one room with our bags everywhere. It’s not the most fun thing living out of a pack in a room full of mattresses and eight other suitcases… Lord help me! But besides the unfortunate rats and super tight quarters, we have been blessed with a cook, Lucus, who is so amazing to cook us delicious East African food that we all like and we are going to have incredible ministry opportunities.
I don’t have the time or space to tell all that God has orchestrated in the past five months that are related to me being in Busia right now, but I’ll give a short glimpse of what is happening back in Mobile, AL that is related to Busia, Kenya. Five months ago I was crying out for God to put people in my life to send me back out to the nations.
The same week I signed up for Real Life Uganda, revival broke out in Alabama. The Lord began pouring out His Spirit as Nathan Morris of Shake the Nations preached the blood and cross of Jesus Christ. Deaf ears began to hear, blind eyes opened, the lame are walking, brain tumors are vanishing and many have been redeemed and restored and it’s still going on. I started going a few days after it started and never left until I left for here. I long to be in the presence of the Lord. Little did I know that in the midst of all of it God was knitting together life long relationships. I quickly learned another part of STN, One By One, was starting an orphanage in Busia, Kenya which is where STN began their crusades. I was excited because it was Kenya and that’s where I have land to start an orphanage (another long story). Even still the Lord had more in mind. Over the months I became friends with Becky Murray, head of One By One, her husband Matt Murray and of course Nick Jones, Shake the Nations’ media guy (love ya Boris). In November, God told me to “get under” (mentored by) Becky. Not knowing exactly how she’d take it I told God I needed an even more clear word. A couple hours after asking that, Katie Gossard, our financial advisor, called to let me know we were going to Busia, Kenya the first half of our trip as it would not be safe in Uganda because of elections. HELLO!!!! That is God! All that to say, I’m now here in Busia and was able to go to the Crusade Stadium yesterday. Standing there made me want to break down and weep because the goodness of the Lord.
God loves Busia. He has so much for the people of here. I’m no one, but I carry the Holy Spirit and the message of the cross. Therefore, I resolve to know nothing but Jesus Christ and him crucified and demonstrate the Spirit’s power. I cry the same cry as those before me, “God would you send revival to Busia that your Son would be glorified!”
As we start ministry tomorrow by doing small crusades, I declare Jesus Christ be glorified in Busia. I declare life. I declare to you, Busia, that as you exalt the Lamb, your city will become a city of refuge. You will be a city of refuge for the nations. You will be a city of life, joy and the thick presence of God. Lift up your heads you ancient gates for the King of Glory is coming in. Charles Spurgeon said, “There is life in a look at the Crucified.” So Busia, look at the Son crucified and live!
